Calzaghe . Sorry I know Pavlik is popular but he is not at Calzaghe's level - that is no shame but it is still the truth.
So, what, you want me to give Pavlik the win against Hopkins because he has some tear jerking excuses? Or should we just disregard the defeat? Or should we disregard the defeat (and I'm not particularly inclined to as, to my eyes, Pavlik didn't lose because he had no energy, but because Hopkins footwork ensured that he was always just out of range whenever Pavlik was set to throw. Which, interestingly, was the main factor Enzo Calzaghe focussed on when confidently predicting a Hopkins win)? But if we disregard it, the question remains the same. Who has Pavlik beaten that backs up an assertion that he could knock out an opponent of Calzaghe's calibre?
See my original post to this thread. When the fight was first discussed ONE thing Boo said was Kelly would catch JC coming in with his head down. I guess RJJ saw that too. Tell me what almost happened? What would have happened if that punch were better timed? Kelly CAN'T KO Ole Joe? Please. Ole Joe robbed us of the biggest boxing event possible at that time. Go ask him....
what almost did happen? nothing to my mind. calzaghe got up and dominated the rest of the round pavlic is just not on calzaghes level, in every possible way joe is superior the one time pavlik had to step it up to cement his P4P status he got humiliate by a pensioner
Calzaghe... and it took me a long time to admit this...is a master at angles. I heard other fighters say that about him but i couldnt stand to watch him. I then watched for myself and it is true. This is a bad style match up for Pavlik and I would put no money on him to win. But I would be rooting for Pavlik like a freaking cheerleader. I might buy a chopper and drive down to Boo's crib and watch it with the Pavlickers while pumping my Pav pom-poms. For real, Calzahge never fought the great 168 lbs. of his time. And I don't understand how anyone could call him the best 168 pounder of all time.
Calzaghe easy UD. The fight would be at SMW or LHW, which isnt really Pavliks division. I like Pavlik and would like to see him make some strong MW defences against the best of the division.
Smaller? The pasty **** is 6'1. Just because he drains to make 160 doesn't mean he is the smaller guy.
You're basing your prediction on a fluke punch? A punch that was aimed for the body that Jones threw blind? A punch that suprised Jones himself? A punch that landed on the hardest part of the glove? A punch that Calzaghe got up from and later dominated the entire fight. Nonsense, ignorant, uneducated prediction. It's like me saying "Well, Calzaghe landed a mean body shot in 1997 and in 2001, Pavlik took a step back after a body punch, therefore, Calzaghe KO1". Come off it... The fact is that Calzaghe handled tougher fighters stylistically than Pavlik. Pavlik fought one guy who is a bad styles clash and lost every round. What reason is there to think Pavlik could win, outside of one punch?
What a biased fool. Yeah, Kelly drained to make 160. Joe quite trying to drain to 168 and moved up to LHW in the same time frame. Do you even think before you post? I thought not.
He had the chance and sadly chose not to fight him. I think Joe had the style to easily beat Pavlik, his sort of perfect match up, but you never know in boxing and clearly we will never now know.
I gave ONE example on how he could win. ONE! I have gone out of my way to NOT predict an outcome. Let's not forget, this whole thread was started by someone that misrepresented what I said in another thread. You want to believe Kelly had NO chance. You are entitled to your opinion. Boxing is littered with surprises though.
Calzaghe makes Pavlik look even dumber than Hopkins made him look. Calzageh has much better footwork than Hopkins, much faster hands, a much higher workrate, and an iron chin. The only thing the Pavlik huggers have got to cling to in this match up is a lucky punch by Pavlik - that pretty much tells us they know he stands no chance if it goes the distance.
