His last KO was Oscar.... i think people are too willing to say that he will KO Jones.... i think this will be an interesting fight.... Hopkins hasn't shown much power above middleweight... the best thing he did was drop Calzaghe (and i don't think Joe was hurt too badly) So hands up those that would bet on Hopkins knocking Roy out? - i know i wouldn't
P.S. I think this will be similar to the Joppy fight.... Roy will have a lot more success than Joppy obviously... but BHOP will win a commanding UD
don't get me wrong....i love roy jones jr....but right about now...a strong wind can floor him. so...you really don't need to be a k.o. artist. I wish roy the best of luck anyhow.
He had Tarver, Wright and Pavlik in situations where he could have KO'd them but he didn't risk it knowing his age and that's understandable. He surely has the power to KO that's why a lot of people think he might in this one considering how Jones' last fight went.
SCAR - have read a few of your posts and respect your opinion a lot - however, although i don't remember the Winky Wright fight too well, i am certain that both Tarver and Pavlik never even came close to being KO'd - bhop certainly dominated them but i don't remember any point other than a period of 30 seconds in the twelfth when Pavlik was stunned for a bit, but he recovered - and Tarver, well... the knock down was legit but i don't remember thinking at any point in that fight that BHOP could have finished him But i accept your point - i also think he has the power to KO, its just VERY unlikely
Thank you, respect your posts/views as well. The Wright fight check out the 12th round, it's obvious Wright was clearly out of it and ready to be taken if his opponent decided to keep throwing but Hopkins clearly was tired and couldn't afford it. Tarver was lost from the 8th to the 12th and late in the fight every time Hopkins pushed in and threw punches Tarver was also dead tired and had nothing to answer back with so yes he was also open to be TKO'd or stopped if Hopkins kept the punches coming nonstop but again he couldn't afford to do it. Same thing with Pavlik, Pavlik was basically out of it from the 8th as well, this doesn't mean he was out on his feet NO. It means he was also ready to be taken and wide open for it with no answers but Hopkins didn't keep throwing nonstop, if he did he would have stopped him either by TKO/on his feet, corner stoppage or referee ending the one-sided beating. Hopkins obviously didn't keep them coming because he couldn't afford to do so either because he was clearly tired, the first flurry in the 12th and Pavlik was rocked well from it, Hopkins clearly didn't follow up because he can't afford to do so.
He was lost, he never got positioning he needed to land his punches with full force, not a single moment. Hopkins kepts moving, Pavlik needs to stand still to position his self to throw his bombs and Hopkins never went to the ropes and stayed there like Miranda and Taylor for Pavlik to shine. Pavlik relies on outlasting opponents, he has a good chin so he walks over their punches till he forces them to stand still after throwing a lot then he does his own damage. Hopkins never gave him such moments and whenever Pavlik thought he had the position he wanted Hopkins would grab him and turn his self out of the corner or just land a straight right and walk out of it like he did with Trinidad at times.
When did he have Tarver hurt? Or Wright? Show me some footage because I didn't see them hurt. Pavlik maybe, but Pavlik was out of high weightclass.
he was circling around him so much...I was getting ****ing dizzy. picking him apart ...shooting his right hand over his jab. I just didn't like gettin in pav's face like he did. Bernard was in the moment and feeling like a proud conquerer but it was uncalled for to cause that ruckus.
Hopkins has never been a particularly powerful puncher, but Roy Jones is at a point where he could get KOed by Paulie Malignaggi.
I think Jones punch resistance is underated right now to some degree. Not saying its good but its not as bad as some will have you imagine. Tarver KTFO him thats for sure but I feel like Jones was still weak at that point and when Johnson KOed him IMO Jones had not really allowed himself to properly heel from that first KO. Roy went 5 years without being KOed despite being hit more now then he ever had. Danny Green is a big and strong fighter and a powerful puncher so its not like bum with featherfist stopped Jones. Hopkins isnt a puncher and takes very little risk and rarley goes in for a kill. I think the best shot at KOing Jones is by one big punch because he will cover up to much the rest of the time to just break him down or land a KO combo. Hopkins has never had one punch KO power. I think Bernard wins this by decision like someone said earlier a more competitive verison of the Joppy fight.
