They are showing Wlad v Rahman on Prime time, presumably as a promo for Saturdays Wlad v Chambers.
Rahman was 36 years old and weighed a career high 253 1/2lbs, over 6 lbs more than Wlad.
Seven years earlier Rahman had been destroyed by a ,[this time in shape and focused ], Lewis,he has also been kod twice by Maskaev.
Wlad boxed as though he had a combination of Foreman/Liston in there with him,his tentative jabs were accompanied by an involuntary jerk of the head backwards to avoid ,largely imaginary retaliation.
Wlad reminded me of Howard Davis the gifted but reluctant lightweight who when throwing a punch ,was trying to move in the opposite direction at the same time.
Wlad is the epitome of the Matador who is having a crisis of confidence, he takes absolutely no chances with the bull until he is demonstrably on his last legs .
If they want to attract fans to Saturday's fight ,they would be better off NOT showing previous Wlad fights as, by doing so they may well have a counter- active effect .
Christ he is boring , he makes Tunney look like Tyson when it comes to aggression, pay for that ? I don't think so.

I love watching him box. I'm on the edge of my seat. He's chinny. You're either going to see a perfected style executed beautifully or a sudden and shocking KO loss. I think he's must see, I wouldn't miss it.

Technically he's very sound, but he is dull to watch. That version of Rahman could/should have been blasted out inside 2 rounds by a world class heavyweight; he didn't even want to be in the ring. I know there has to be a certain caution/negativity to the way you fight if your chin is made of finest porcelain, as Wlad's appears to be, but it doesn't make for exciting viewing as he's fighting against tomato cans most of the time who are quite happy just to be in a world title fight. I always liked the way Lenny Lewis fought when he was in against dangerous fighters; he used the fear to get the job done quickly and (often) spectacularly. I like the fact that David Haye seems to do the same; if he's in with a banger then he's going to make sure he bangs you out first. It means that at some point he's going to get knocked sparko himself, but it makes him worth paying money to see IMO, and it's that attitude that makes me think he could possibly blast Wlad out of there.

If Chambers was a banger I would agree with you.

I give Haye a shot against Wlad because of your reasons.,more so than against Vitali,Wlad has more talent ,but lacks the steel in the chin of his big brother, plus he shits himself if you are agressive .

Yep, plus you have to figure that if a plodder like Sam Peter can tag him then someone with Haye's speed - which is very decent for a heavyweight - is likely to land at some point. Whilst Haye's chin is also pony, i don't see Wlad having the stones to throw anything significant enough to really damage it, whilst Haye is likely to be throwing bombs from the off.

I actually do give Haye a chance against Vitali also, but fighting in a very, very different way than he would against Wlad.

Wlad is cautious, but thats how hes been trained to be, he has no need to engage when he can pick someone apart systematically from the outside and take them out without danger. Wlads main problems are his pencil thick weak legs, it gives him no balance and when he gets hit they wont hold him up

The Klits are underappreciated on this forum, they systematically dominate their opponents with technically good boxing skill and lots of workrate, while being physical beasts of men.

As for Haye, hes technically horrible and Wlad should pick him apart and punnish him for his mistakes. I think Wlad is aging now so that gives Haye a chance

Because his chin is made of wafer.

If Haye were to fight Vitali I think he should adopt Leonard's strategy against Hearns, plenty of lateral movement ,mixed with in and out bursts of punching.Keep the big man reaching for him and use his speed to make him miss, then shoulder roll, and counter, he hurt Valuev in the last round , Haye can dig ok.:good

Yeah, prior to the Valuev fight i didn't think he'd have much of a chance to beat Vitali, but the tactics in the Valuev fight - whilst a bit too negativeIMO - are the kind he would need to beat Vitali, just with a bit more aggression to keep Vitali honest. There's definitely nothing wrong with his power, he wobbled Valuev with a left hook that didn't even land properly. The beauty of Haye though is that he could just as easily get himself sparked by either brother, and that's why i'd rather spend my money watching him than watching the Klits.

True, but he still threw more power punches than Wlad has in the last 5 years. :p

It's Wlad v Chagaev right now ,Chagaev looks to be in about the same shape as Russell Crowe ,when he played Braddock, just caught the referee, surreptiously looking at his watch in the middle of a round , he must be bored too

Fight over ,referee stops the fight to save the crowd from further punishment.

if they wanna sell the fight they should show Wladdy-Mercer that was beautiful, albeit a half dead opponent

I do find this fight pretty interesting, Chambers is a quality opponent, anyone know if you can you get primetime on Virgin?
