Yeah, it's the only Clottey fight I've ever watched. Yawn. The usual General Forum shite. :dead

Obviously if he's able to give Cotto, Margo, and judah hell then obviously his defense is doing something right.

Clottey reminds me of the Baltimore Ravens. Stout defense, but can't score for ****. If he were to get a little something in the offensiive arsenal, he could win big.

It's good defense if you don't want to take too much punishment to the head. It's not good if it becomes his gameplan and the only thing he does, so in order for him to block all those punches he also needs to lose every round. Not good.

:deal:deal:deal This sentence hits the nail right on the head in a way I haven't quite been able to as succinctly on this thread. Nice work

If you don't think Clottey's defense is good you don't know anything about boxing.

By the list of fighters you don't know the difference between
    This content is protected
and boxing fundamentals. Those men are ALL "freaks" in the area of reaction time. What they do is actually HORRIBLE advice for most normal men.

Clottey is able to win consistently against guys with loads more "natural" talent. He is also able to constantly measure his opponent's "gas tank" while keeping steady pressure on him. The whole time wearing him down WITHOUT expending much energy. This creates massive countering opportunities when the guy gasses.

Winky is better, but Clottey is no slouch. Clottey has banged out a few HOFs. You are full of it if you think Clottey was "hurt" or "almost out of there". The men's faces at the end of the bout tell the tale of who got hurt.

The peek-a-boo is the SAFEST defense and should be utilized when a fighter in front of you has more "natural" talent and/or stamina. 99% of fighters start off using it. Clottey is a MASTER of this style.

    Have you even boxed before?

I guess the next logical question is, "How is he able to throw all of those punches without showing any signs of fatigue?" :think

If the sport was only about blocking punches then yeah its a really good defense. But just standing there in a shell means nothing to me. Wright puts on the shell but he opens up and picks you apart with a double jab and straight left. Mayweather, Hopkins, Toney etc use shoulder rolls and head movement and come back with counters.

The success of the peak a boo guard depends mostly on speed. Watch any fight in which a slower fighter uses that guard and you will see that they end up looking like human punching bags. Clottey was handpicked for this very reason. However, Joshua's unorthodox style is nonetheless very effective as Pac was never able to hurt him, though Cotto did. His defense is not pretty but it works just fine...its his offense that people tend to have issues with.

This is the dumbest thing I ever heard. Defence and offence are two different things. Just because he lacks offence doesnt mean his defence isnt good. Defence is all about not getting hit clean and guess what..... he doesnt!!!!

Was Gerald McClellan's offence not as good because he got hit alot???

This is why we hate *******s. You are a hardcore Pac fan. I have argued with you, but honestly you have a point here. Just for thinking different they are all over you. *******s are vicious!
