If Wlad ads another notch to his belt against Chambers, will it help his legacy?

    Yeah, a slip up maybe?

It sort of does sound like the type of comment you'd see from someone who hasn't put on gloves to hit the heavy-bag or get in the ring.

I wasn't sure what McGrain meant there and was tempted to say something, but I no longer have the KO available for review.

If that was an arm punch, I need to make an appointment with the eye doctor.

Yeah, you need to watch that again. He didn't mean Wlad just used his arm, he said that because Wladimir only punched Chambers on the arm and Chambers fainted. It was a total fluke.

    Now, now. :nono

It's rare for McGrain to slip up.

    I'm sure there's a simple explanation.

Mrs. McGrain might have been vacuuming at the time and partially eclipsed the man's view.

I must say form the start I have only seen the last round.

The ko punch looked like it actually missed from one angle.but another view showed it landing ,and Chambers head reacting to it.

Question .Was the rest of the fight as utterly boring as the last round?

I would not pay to watch Wlad fight a substandard Chris Byrd,a guy who appears to me on the level of a Larry Donald for skills and power.

Wlad does not take the initiative, until he has a man all but exhausted ,as I said in my thread, Wlad The Reluctant Warrior.

He is effective and gets the win ,but he does not entertain me ,move me, grip me, hold my attention. In short, he bores the **** out of me with his safety first approach.

With the division being in the sorry state it is, he can probably be champ as long as he wants to stay in shape , unless Haye can climb all over him early in Dempsey style.

But my dough he does not get!
Another HO HUM night in Germany.

I don't think Wlad's left foot was even in touch with the canvas when the punch landed. It was wide of the line and it certainly worked independantly of his hips. It's close to being the textbook definition of an arm punch.

What do YOU think an arm punch is?

That seemed like a long reply that didn't have anything to do with my little joke, man. I'm not that sure why you were quoting me, really. The punch was a strange one and I had to watch it several times myself. Still am not that sure about it to be honest. I know was effective though. Wlad tends to bore me too, but I happen to like him and am glad for him when he does well. As for Byrd/Chambers comparisons, I don't see them too much except for the size but maybe it's my memory. Aside from seeing Byrd kill himself down to light heavy and get his ghost destroyed on ESPN, I haven't seen a real whole Byrd fight since around the time the prime Byrd was fighting last. Maybe if I refresh my memory I will see the similarity more.

Yeah. When the punch landed, Wlad's foot is off the mat. Can somebody please explain to me how he is generating torque in his hips with his foot around an inch in the air?

He really got his shoulder into it, I thought. Look at the wya his shoulder turns as he punches.

It was a dominant performance by Wlad but Chambers at times showed how he could have posed problems with his fast jabs and movement. But honestly you have a chance to be Heavyweight Champion of the World and you dont go for it, why?

Yeah, and he also generates some momentum coming in, but it's the arm and as you say, the shoulder that generates the real torque; that's where the punch stops.

I didnt notice his foot off the ground but he really turned the shoulder in, from the waist up it is basically the perfect textbook left hook.

I really liked Klitschko's right hand last night, he threw it alot more than usual. He still broke down Chambers with his jab though.

    good post.

About the bold, i agree in terms of resume but h2h vs eachother or great HW's from other era's Vitali is the better and more formidable of the two imo.

Holds the crook perfectly; gets it round with a snap - I thought it may have been a little to wide to hold up to the perfect label, but now i'm not sure.

I actually thought it was odd that Manny started to insist upon the left when the right was doing the job.

Well it certainly looked like a very solid left hook (on the feed I watched), especially judging by its effect.

However, I have found a youtube of the punch and it does look like, while Klitschko's left foot may have been on the ground for most of the swing, it may have momentarily left the ground at the instant of impact.

( Apologies to Mrs McGrain for speculating that she might vacuum at such a critical moment )
