Annoying as hell and also called "potshotting". He does it alot because no one has been able to take it from him. If it aint broke don't fix it.

Mayweather throws this punch a little different than most do. Most fighters will duck at the waist when they throw it because it gives the opponent a more difficult target but I've seen PBF throw it like a fencer would do a strike (bending at the knees) and I think he can get away with that because he has excessively long arms.

its a ploy so the opponent will cover the body then the next shot will be to the head with the same punch.

Keeps his opponents on their toes and sets up punches 2 the hed. In round 8 of the hatton fight he used it to set up a big right hand that hurt hatton.

    You're a ploy!:deal

PBF punches you in the belly, eventually you lower your hands to block it.
Why? BECAUSE THAT **** HURTS STUPID!!!

It's funny how people will take a highly effective and skilled punch, and call it a ploy. It can work as a ploy, yes, but only because it's actually a real punch, and one that fighters have a very difficult time dealing with. It scores points, messes with your rhythm, and yes, it even lands.:-(

A jab to the body isn't meant to hurt. Get off Floyd's boys.

Eventually it gets discomforting and discouraging with that jab always landing to the body...

:deal Yea. It's also alot easier to find the body than to the head. Even if someone pitty pats with the jab it instinctively makes the receiving fighter cover up to head or body, leaving themselves open to uppercuts and hooks. He likes to throw jabs and rights for a while, and then out of no where when they least expect it he'll unleash that check left hook.

Have you ever had a stiff power jab to the solar plexus ? I can tell you its very uncomfortable its even more uncomfortable when your wended. Its even harder to guard against.. When floyd jabs to the body, he is falling into the punch off his back foot so it got some pop..
Shane used it against margariot with great success, it set up the over hand rights that shane was able to land on point against margarito..

It scores points, and it might stop the opponents initial attack.
I also think that that it wears someone down.
