    I don't know about that. Frazier actually went onto say that the left hook that dropped Ali wasn't one of his better ones, it was just thrown and landed at the right time when Ali was exhausted and throwing an uppercut.

    When you have great skills, great power, and great reach, the other guy goes gun shy the second he tastes the power. In this case, Wlad hurt chambers and buckled his knees in round two,. From this moment on, the fight changed.

    Lewis, Louis, and Wlad could take it easy, because the other guy is reluctant to engage for good reason. In Wlad's case he has the best footwork of the three, and is even taller and harder to reach.

    Joe Louis lacked the footspeed, height, range, and defense, so fighters could get inside him and land some. This is not the case with Lewis or Wlad.

    Joe Frazier: "Lean forwards and to the left slightly, but still keep your weight evenly distributed. As you're bringing the punch over plant your left foot on the floor. Anchor it. That is going to drive the punch. When bringing the punch over, simultaneously bring your hip with it, but keep that left foot planted."


    Bernard Hopkins: "I dip a little to the left and rotate my upper body. My body weight shifts from even distribution to mostly my left. As I bring the punch up i'm driving with the left leg and at the same time i'm bringing my hips around. Your power comes from your feet. Not your arms, shoulders or your back but your feet. Your left foot is planted. There is no pivot.

    "Wlad's lead leg need not be in contact with the ground."

    Of course not, but if you want to say the punch isn't derived, in the main, from the arms, then it should be.

    If you have no weight on your left leg when the punch lands, even if you are badly balanced when the punch lands, the energy in the punch is being derived from the upper body.

    Realistically a lot of the power of a lefthook is generated by the snap of your shoulder as you come around. Some fighters can come off their feet as they are rotating forward delivering it, but most and Wlad included seem to have their feet firmly planted. Ive always been a big fan of Wlads jab and hook off the jab when he uses it.
    The punch he threw in the Chambers fight seemed a little strange, almost like he was pushing it rather than snapping it, but it certainly did the damage. I wasnt criticising anything Wlad did delivering that shot, just that it wasnt a snappy lefthook and it still did massive damage.

    He disliked the hook, yes. He was a believer in the "long" hook, which is unusual, but he absolutley did not "leap in" with 80% of his hooks. In fact watching the decisive moments from the Foster fight (the first KO until the end) I count 7 left hooks and every single one of them is technically perfect; left foot planted. He did travel with the hook though.

    There is absolutley no way anyone is telling me he got through that punch with his hips. He just flat out didn't. But the point where Seamus and I agree is the point where he says "who cares?" Who does care? A ****-load of people, apparently, but for me it's an easy one. Wlad through a left-hook where the torque was generated by momentum in and in his upperbody, rather than as described in the "perfect" version Frazier and Hopkins describe above, but it pole-axed the guy. Bottom line speaks loudest.

    There are many ways to throw a hook. Wlad is so so in the upper body, he doesn't need to plant his toes to the mat, and twist his hips all the way to deliver a KO type of left hook.

    I think his best moments were when he was rough-housing Wladimir a bit. His takedown was probably his best offense, but unfortunately for him this is not MMA.

    Look how calm the guy between Wlads legs is.

    I thought for stretchs lasting about 20 seconds Chambers jab and movement did cause Wlad some problems.

    I've fully acknowledged his power. But you are well-aware of his unusual meekness. He will close the show -but only when it is almost certainly safe to do so, and last night he still needed to be insulted by his trainer to end matters.

    --thus the comments about the weakness of the division. And the brothers should be forced to fight each other. Champions answer, or should answer to greater authorities, if only fan demands.


    It is even harder when you fight as if it's your wedding day.
