GSP knows deep down if he really wants to go to 185 and whether or not he can handle it.

I've just been watching GSP vs Hardy Primetime and he is training with Marquardt and Cote. Couple that with Mousasi and countless other top big guys and he should have a really good idea of how he can handle himself with the best at 185.

I think after Hardy he needs to step up. Next up is a Hardy fight alike in Paul Daley (if he beats Koscheck). Other than that it's guys he has dominated.

With Silva creeping towards 205 I think GSP could do it. ****ing tough because of the size of them. In terms of skills no problem but Sonnen and Marquardt are big ****s.

He can beat a lot of the fighters up there, but there are some who are style nightmares for him. As mentioned Sonnen is just too big and a better wrestler as well. I think he'd have a better chance of beating Silva than Sonnen or someone like Hendo. btw GSP is one of the few guys who in the UFC who dont cut weight, he's about 5'9 and not even that big at 170; look at his fight with Fitch, he looked like he was from a division lower.

He should stay at walterweight and just dominate it till he gets too old; rack up an obscene record for title defenses. Dana just needs to do a better job procuring talent for him to fight.

GSP should try to beat any welterweight who looks good enough to maybe beat him. If no one is a theat then he should move up and test himself there.

Thats very light for a welterweight. Most are more than that in the cage.

People are talking about Daley on the basis he beats Koscheck. If he beats Koscheck then I think he deserves the shot before guys who GSP has dominated. Daley is in the same mould as Hardy so it depends how Hardy does. If he gets dominated I think most will think the same for Daley. Unless Daley looks special against Koscheck.

As much as I like Daley, I don't think he gets past Kos - unless Kos gets all macho and tries to bang with him.

Personally, I think Paulo Thiago will get the next shot...

Shields is apparently a free agent after his fight with Hendo in SF, even if he wins and retains the title. For me, Shields is the biggest threat to GSP at WW (that he hasn't already fought, at least)... and would be a superb addition to an already stacked UFC WW division.

But at least Daley has real knock out power.

What the ****? GSP has been one of the biggest weight cutters at 170lbs. Only people that might cut more are Anthony Johnson, and Thiago Alves. GSP has had a walk around weight of 190+ for a few years now.

Just noticed the thread title is wrong. It should be "GSP knows if he can 'andle 185/MW".

I would agree if it was a grappling match, but GSP is miles ahead on his feet and Jake will not be able to take GSP down.

GSP would destroy Jake any place the fight went. I personally don't want Shields dry humping people at 170lbs in the UFC.

Thats why I said if it was a grappling match, in any sort of mma sheildss would not fair great.

But he has legitmatly good ground skills and is a decent sized welter so I wouldnt think he would get destoryed on the ground... or at least not straight away. GSP would most likley grind him out.
