So Hagler wasn't past his prime when he fought Leonard? I can understand the Duran loss to Benitez, fair is fair, but like I said with Hearns, no shame losing to an atg boxer puncher who is a natural 154-160lber. Once again, these guys were in their primes, you cannot tell me with a straight face Cotto, Hatton, Morales, Barrera, and especially Marquez were in theirs. Great accomplishments for the Pacman, and he's a great guy, but ask Freddie Roach who he thinks is better. I'll take his word over yours.

IMO, when you take into account timing of victories and the like, I think Hatton should go on there as well. At a bare minimum, Marcel is as much of a stretch as Hatton. I don't know if I'd call Barkley great either. It was a great win because of the size disparity, but on a P4P basis, he's a level down from guys like Cotto and about on the level with Hatton, IMO.]

Right now it's Duran, but if Pacquiao beats Mayweather, that puts them even in my book.

I'd consider Marcel a much better fighter than Hatton. he was a wonderful boxer and exhibited much more skills than Ricky.

 

Skills don't necessarily pay the bills though. There have been plenty of fighters who have been plenty skillful who haven't had success, and others less so who have had plenty of success. Resume to resume, they're about on the same level. Marcel lost to some pretty crummy fighters not long before he fought Duran, which Hatton never did. His best win, over a green Arguello, is probably about on the level with Hatton's best win over a faded Tszyu, and the rest of Hatton's record is probably a bit better.

I'm not saying either one was a 'great', but if you include Marcel, you have to include Hatton, who at the very least was just as accomplished.

 

Id take a green Arguello over a faded Tszyu any day of the week.

Alexis wasnt all that green, he was a little unpolished but his physical advantages made him a weapon of a featherweight.
You cant hold those losses against Marcel, thats like holding Pac's early ones against him..He avenged two anyway and I wouldnt call Duran crummy.

Marcel beat several very, very good fighters outside of Arguello...Marcano, Serrano, the excellent Gomez and got robbed against Shibata..according to several sources he was robbed against Hernandez aswell, which is no surprise considering some of the decisions coming out of Venezuela at the time.

Id say Hatton has accomplished more but he is far from the better fighter..Ernesto proved himself against a high calibre of opposition. I wouldnt disagree with them being to far off each other resume wise but it was a different time then and Ricky has been afforded a lot of opportunities because of his backing at home.

 

Manny still ahead in the ranking. Looks legit that manny beat greater fighters!
