He's like the 8 year old kid that does something to embarrass the family because he doesn't know any better. What kind of questions are these? Is he trying to mess with these peoples mind or is he too dumb to realize he comes across as a curious 8 year old? You know, the ones that go asking a million questions.

 

Yes i totally agree something many of the youngsters on the Classic dont understand, i mean to a certain extent you can assess a fighter on film, but you still get more of a feel for the fighter and the times, if you have lived thru that era, anyone thats been a long time boxing fan should agree with that. I mean i know the history of all the old time fighters but if you notice when i post on the classic 99% of the times its about fighters from the late 70s to the present time, its not that i dont know about Louis,Dempsey,Johnson,Fitz etc etc its that i wasnt around then.


Back to Ellie yey Lot of the reason Goosen dont respect Ellie is cause he knows the Kid dont know his ****. I mean HTF is someone gonna be a somewhat known Boxing reporter but yet never heard of Ruben Olivares:huh Geez i didnt like him much before, know this guy is really pissing me off:-(

 

It got me thinking that maybe I underrate Olivares... maybe its because him and Duran are a bit similar.

What do you think Anarci...where would you place Olivares?

 

What makes you think Goosen doesnt know about those guys? Goosen has been around the game and in the mix along time im sure he just chose to not bring them up. He just brought up the guys from his era on up, nothing wrong with that. Too many people try to hard to be boxing historians and bring up guys they only read about, or just seen clips off.

 

Yeah, I know he does. I said much earlier in a response that he probably is purposely just keeping it to fighters he saw was around for (Hence the Joe Louis comment).

 

He is definitely the greatest Bantam in the last 40 years and maybe of all time. Although i respect and listen to Old timers like Johnny Ortiz and other old timers who remember and saw Manuel Ortiz live. Eder Jofre is another top 3. i wouldnt argue with either of those guys as the greatest Bantam. Based on resume and HTH ability id put Olivares 35-40 on my ATG pfp list.

PS i dont think him and Duran are similar style wise.

 

Olivares used to go into the ring drunk from what I hear from Mexican trainers..

Yes Olivares was almost as legendary ability to pound the pisto as he was pounding the body. Have you ever met Olivares? I heard he lives in Mexico but for as often as ive met him you would think he lives in LA. He was a regular at the Forum,Olympic and even at the little club fights at the Montebello quiet Cannon. Also WBHOF Banquet really friendly and happy guy, he seems like he was probably a lot of fun to drink with:yep As he was known to with many of his fans. Im almost sure he stopped the boozing as ive never seen him with a beer.
