The coach recommended doing knuckle pushups to strengthen your hands and I wanted to know if there is any truth to it. Any input?

iv started doing them regularly i do 4x40 normal push ups then at the end of a workout just do 4x10 knuckle ones. Deffo can feel the difference in my forearms. You have to just try these things mate an experiment and see what works for you :good

It will definately strengthen your wrists. It's possible it may strengthen your hands as well as most forms of exercise involving certain parts of the anatomy result it increased bone density in that area. For example longe distance runners have an increased bone density in their lower body.

knuckle pushups are great for wrist stability, been doin em for years.. still have had hand problems, but ive staring doin fingertip pushups and noticed great results in strengthening my hands/fingers

  7. They can also injure your wrists/knuckles so do them sensibly. Try using a soft matt or folded towel under your knuckles.

In our group session we'll just drop and do them with out mitts on.

Doing them restricts the Tendons in the elbow, not a good idea

Pressups open Handed work and stretch the tendons of the muscles and Tendons that work the Fingers and thumb. Making a Fist stops this, and causes an inbalance in the mechanics of the elbow.

So the jury is still out? I think I'm just gonna stick with grip strenthening exercises for now unless somebody can definitely tell me knuckle pushups benefit the hand.
