is there one technique you'd like to see brought into mma, or something that should be taken out of the sport? theres only one thing that i'm not keen on, and thats elbows to the face when the opponent is laying on the ground. have no qualms if one is delivered while they are both standing. :!:
How can you not like elbows after Jon Jones just won a fight with a perfect one last night? I wish we saw more high amplitude throws. They are totally legal, and we do see them on occasion, I just want more. Oh, and more Brabo/D'arce/Anaconda/Inverted arm-triangle chokes, I can't get enough of them.
I'm only against kicks, stomps etc to the head of a grounded opponent. Too lethal. Everything else I'm cool with.
I want kicks on the ground but not stomps. I like elbows on the ground but not 12-6 and no foot stomps. I understand why people don't like kicks on the ground because they seem so lethal but Pride fighters didn't die so that doesn't seem like an argument based on fact as much as on the apparent brutality. Stomps seem too brutal to me and too dangerous and so do the 12-6 elbows (though, only to the head. It seemed ridiculous when Dean tolds Jones that the 12-6 elbows to the thigh were illegal.) Also, the upkick to a postured opponent (Vera against Jones and Silva's DQ loss to Okami) seem as if they should be legal. The spirit of the rule is that it is too dangerous (and perhaps unsporting?) to kick someone while they are down but when someone is fully postured in the guard it doesn't seem wrong at all.
ah thanks. Yeah not a real fan of those either. Although, if it was a title fight or headliner fight I wouldn't mind seeing more leeway in terms of what is allowed. At that level I'd expect to see more technique, skill, and experience rather than outright brawling.
id be happy if they stripped it right back to no biting, gouging, hair pulling or groin shots. basically no dirty stuff. because at the end of the day its a fight. i wanna know who would fare best if these guys met in the street not who fares best in a limiting set of rules. i used to love seeing coleman headbutt his opponents into oblivion. it wasnt fancy but it sure was effective.
I'd like to see everything but eye gouging, fish hooking, and ball smashing. Kicks, and knees to the head of stuffed opponents of course.. You get stuffed, you should pay.. Refs should be quick to jump all over this and stop it due to the dangerous nature of being struck this way though. Soccer kicks, elbows yes.. Headbutts? I think I want to hold off on these.
I'm happy with the rules, I think some of the judges should be looked at, I still can't get over Cecil Peoples say he didn't score leg kicks because they don't end fights. Perhaps the 10 point must system should be looked at too. As far as fighting I agree with more judo throws, emphasis on submissions and some slicker striking, if I wanna watch a brawl I'll go to the pub on a Friday night.
