Im convinced that Martinez boxes Pavliks ears off!

He's so smart on the counter and he can clearly handle pressure as evidenced in the Williams fight, plus he's too slick to get caught BIG by Pavlik.

I like Kelly but his limitations are there to be exposed!

    Martinez wins UNANIMOUS!

No, not here. Not hype. I think Martinez is a very classy fighter, at 154. 160, especially against someone like Pavlik might be too much, though. To be honest, I don't much care if Martinez doesn't last the distance as long as he wins 3-4 rounds clearly. He's 35 and going up too much, lest we forget.

Reports are that he asked DiBella to make the fight happen.

The constant references to the Hopkins/Pavlik fight that keep showing up on these threads are pretty amazing.

Bernard Hopkins was one of the greatest middleweights who ever laced up a pair of gloves. He was the undisputed champ, held the title longer, and had more defenses than anyone in history. Names like Monzon, Haglar, and Robinson belong alongside the name Bernard Hopkins, but not many others.

Bhop skipped right over 168, moved to light heavyweight, and beat Tarver who was number one in the division at that time.

Bernard was the Ring #4 P4P fighter when he fought Pavlik.

Hopkins and Pavlik fought at 170, and Hops weighed somewhere between 180-185 on fight night. Reports vary, but no matter how you slice it, BHop was by far the bigger, stronger man that night.

Hopkins probably owns the greatest boxing brain in the history of the sport. If there is a better strategist and tactician in the sport it would be BHop's trainer Nazzim Richardson. Hopkins is the type of fighter for whom the term "ring generalship" was invented, and Nazzim is the type of trainer who knows exactly how to bring the very best out of a fighter.

So, now, somebody please tell me what the **** Sergio Martinez has, or has accomplished, that warrants comparison to Bernard ****ing Hopkins!

I keep noticing a very conspicuous pattern among Martinez supporters. They do not provide any sort of realistic analysis of how Martinez beats Pavlik. Their entire vocabulary consists of "speed, angles, Bernard Hopkins."

They never mention the fact that KP's knockout ratio in fights at 160 scheduled for 8 or more rounds is 100%, or the fact that no fight at 160 ever went past 9 rounds. They never mention the fact that Martinez can't get out of the way of a right hand to save his mother's life. They seem oblivious to the fact that Martinez telegraphs his two best punches from 3 feet away. They never mention the fact that Sergio's jab stinks to high heaven, or that he would have trouble clinching almost any true middleweight. And they sure as hell do not mention the fact that Martinez has almost zero fundamental boxing skills, or that he relies almost entirely on speed and athleticism that goes to rack and ruin after 5 or 6 rounds!

Martinez claims he will have Pavlik all figured out after 8 rounds, and then he'll bust KP up and knock him out. If you're going to figure Pavlik out, you sure as **** better do it long before the end of 8 rounds, because the vast majority of Kelly's fights do not last that long.

Pavlik is too big, too strong, very effective (body puncher) ... great right hand ... and is durable.

    Martinez will crumble under pressure.

The skys the limit once pavlik crushes Sergio.

Could Kelly Pavlik’s next big middleweight title defense come in Big D?

If Top Rank chairman Bob Arum has his way, it could.

The Top Rank brass have had internal discussions about Pavlik headlining a fight card at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, later this year.

Top Rank boxer Manny Pacquiao defeated Joshua Clottey in front of more than 50,000 people on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium, a fight Pavlik attended with Martinez to drum up interest for their April 17 bout in Atlantic City.

If Pavlik beats Martinez, Arum said he will look to make a Pavlik fight in Arlington.

“[Cowboys owner] Jerry [Jones] was very impressed when he met Kelly, and he told me he’s looking forward to Kelly fighting a main event in Cowboys stadium,” said Arum. “When I mentioned it to Kelly, his eyes opened wide.”

Pavlik, who did not respond to an interview request for this story, does not have the same national following as Pacquiao, who is easily the biggest name in boxing.

Consequently, Arum would look to pair the Pavlik bout with either a co-main event or a strong undercard bout featuring a Hispanic star such as junior middleweight contender Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. or welterweight contender Antonio Margarito.

“Kelly, on his own, couldn’t do 40,000 in Cowboys Stadium,” Arum said. “But north Texas has a huge Hispanic population.

“With a strong Hispanic fighter, he could do 40,000.”

Pavlik also would need a high-profile opponent, preferably one that could bring his own fan base. Arum said the fight could either be a super middleweight bout or a middleweight title defense, with Lucian Bute, Paul Williams and Ronald “Winky” Wright mentioned as possibilities.

Pavlik drew about 10,000 fans for his two fights with Jermain Taylor, which were the best-attended fights of his headlining career. Both those crowds were made up of about 90 percent Pavlik fans.

Cowboys Stadium holds 80,000 for NFL games. The NBA All-Star game drew 108,000 in February at the stadium.

“It’s so much better for the sport doing these fights in large stadiums,” said Arum. “It’s so much more innovative with the electronics and the video effects.

“And it elevates the sport to have boxing identified with professional football, which is the No. 1 sport in the country. Even thought it’s tangential, it’s very, very good for boxing.”

Pavlik likes to have at least three months between fights, which means his next bout could coincide with the Cowboys’ season.

That’s not a problem, Arum said.

“You could easily put a fight in during their bye week or when they’re on the road,” he said. “There’s plenty of time.”

One of the reasons why another Cowboys Stadium fight is so appealing to Arum is his budding friendship with Jones.

Both love the spotlight, both love big events and both love the NFL.

“But I’m still a Giant fan,” said Arum, a longtime Giants season ticket-holder. “I maintain my independence.”

    Ticket update

Arum didn’t release ticket sales for the April 17 bout but said there are still plenty of good seats available.

Campbell native Chris Hazimihalis was added to the undercard — he made his pro debut in December on the undercard of the Pavlik-Miguel Espino bout — and the card will also feature super welterweight boxer Ronald Hearns, the son of former middleweight champion Thomas Hearns.

“We’ve got to get those Youngstown people to have a party in Atlantic City,” Arum said.

I don't think the haters would boycott if he was in against someone that could whup his ass though. I think they would pay well to see that.
