Just wait and see the guys picking him over Pavlik will be the first to call in a meaningless win. If Kelly knocks him out with the first punch with under 10 seconds gone by they will find SOMETHING to criticize about Kelly's performance.

I already said that. I'd rate the win as #4 or #5 in significance. I think Martinez is a fine 154 pound titlist. He's not in the same class as Wright, Hearns, and others who were great at that weight, but he's okay. I'd rate him about the same as prime McKart, but Bronco had way better defense. He held his own with Winky in their first fight, and I cannot imagine Martinez holding his own against a prime Winky Wright.

Martinez is just a brawler with fast hands and quick feet. Pavlik already beat a bunch of guys who hit harder, have better defense, better stamina, and are tougher and more resiliant. There is simply no justifiable reason for Pavlik to lose this fight, or even struggle at any point.

 

Well, Kelly should be fight legit MW's. How long has it been since he's had a meaningul fight? A lot was expected from this guy, now he's picking on little guys. He needs to step up and clean out the division. Kelly should be better than just another alphabet champ, but it seems this is all he wants to be.

Sturm was walking around at 192 pounds, and had a mando coming up. Now he's tied up in court with Universum. Martinez would beat Sylvester, et al. In fairness, Martinez is the best guy who was both available and willing to fight.

I'd give Pavlik a lot more credit for beating Martinez than you, I guess. Afterall, Sergio has two or three unofficial victories over Cintron.

 

Kelly will move up in a year, tops. It depends on whether fights with the ring ranked #1 and #2 contenders at 160 can be made. Sturm, Williams. I'm not happy with this fight either but The Ring has Williams #2 and look what Sergio did to him at 160. Just about any other MW right now would be a worse fight. Also, there aren't many HBO will sanction right now. They have their own agenda, and let's be very honest about this, HBO is king maker in the boxing world in the US. This is Kelly's first fight back since he pissed them off by not postponing the Hopkins fight.
