was rewatching benn-eubank 1 the other day. one of the commentators remarked that eubank doesn't take a good body shot. he was also hurt several times in that fight to the body (not surprising since benn was the one punching him). this got me thinking, what makes some fighters able to take body shots all day long, whereas others are more vulnerable to them? i'd guess you'd need a strong core and good conditioning. but from all accounts eubank was a very well conditioned athlete and looks to have a strong core (or am i mistaking a 6pack for a strong core?) i also always felt that hagler was affected more by body shots than head shots.
sorry i dont think its science. doesnt take a good body shot would mean 'chinny' in a body sense. theres plenty of ways to condition for body shots. all things top level fighters would have undertaken (alone almost any fighter)
A six pack isn't a great illustration of core strength. Lots of body builders have six packs but weak cores. Core musles are much deeper and i'd argue are probably the biggest factor in determining whether you can weather the effects of a good body shot. Multifidus, inner and outer obliques, hip flexors and TVA all play as important a part as the rectus abdominus in regards to core strength.
I take it you passed your anatomy test the other week then, Jeff:happy One thing that hasn't been mentioned is willpower. Nothing sickens a fighter more that a solid body assault. When you are dropped with a good headshot, 'autopilot' sometimes takes over - you just manage to find a way to get to your feet. Body shots are different - look at how many fighters have been writhing in agony on the canvas following a good body shot. When you talk of breaking a fighters will, the body is the first port of call.
i hated body taking body punches especially to the floating rib.i could do thousands of stomach excies, sit ups, medicine ball work and all sorts.i still hated them
Ha ha.... There is a little move that I could tell you and I gurantee you would be impossible to hit with 90% of bodyshots (estimate). Not sure I should share it here but trust me it works... little tiny thing that makes a big difference. To do with placement of the elbow.
I got dropped badly in sparring the other week never felt pain like it felt allway to the other side ov my body i was sparring a guy who was 86kg and im only 74kg.iv never bin troubled by any body shots from people my weight or a tad bit heavier but it was just to much i tried not to go down but just couldnt help it then he started patting me on my back while i was on my knees sayin breath the ****.
Any good? And, ledge above the hip? What ledge? Did he really just mean the waist, because that's what 'body part between ribcage and hip' usually indicates... I suppose ledge sounded better.
