I've been trying to understand why the Klitshko's are held in such high standing despite being so inept. One fights as though he'll die if he gets hit by a counter shot and one fights like a silverback. No need to tell you who is who.

When you think about it 99% of the long reigning champions at Heavyweight are black; Patterson, Ali, Frazier, Foreman, Holmes, Tyson, Holyfield and Lewis. How many of these guys fought scared or fought like amateurs?

Are Europeans or whites for that matter just happy that the Klit's have a strap and talk **** about how great they are for the sake of it? Or are these guys AWESOME and a lot of us just don't get it?

Incidentally I'm from the UK and I'm white!

In all fairness...most of them seem to be mitteleuropean.

Not a region with much boxing history, it's unsurprising that they're excited.

I think for some is, and for some it isn't.

I like the Klitschko's, but not because they're from Europe... or white for that matter... They are the dominant heavyweights, act as normal human beings and win all their fights convincingly and mostly with some kinda stoppage in the end.
I actually think it's strange that so many Americans see Ali as some kind of hero, when they are accusing the 2 brothers of being boring, not engaging, jabbing and grabbing. I know this is like stepping on some sore toes, but just compare it for once. :think

They are held in high regard because they are the best on their division, and have been for years now. They are popular, particularly in Eastern Europe because that's where they are from.

I'm a German Klitschko fan and biased. But let me put it this way:

    1) They deliver the (T)KO and dominate the fight with size, power, and skill.
    2) They are educated and intelligent. The IQ shows in and out of the ring.
    3) They usually don't trashtalk and are gentlemen. They respect their opponents.
    4) They look well enough that they attracted some female fans to the sport.
    5) They take on the best in the division and still rule.

There are only two things put against them:
    1) They are brothers and won't fight for the crown.
    2) Their style is not very exciting.

So, more to like than to hate.

    If you say,
    3) They are neither Americans nor black,
    I cannot help you.

The radical Klit haters are not much better than the radical fanboys.

    Respect!

The Ali comparison isn't entirely fair because in 85% of his fights he mixed in some of the most amazing stuff ever seen by any heavyweight!

The severe holding and shitty performances started in 76.

I like the Klitschkos, because they are classy guys who contribute to society. I never liked Michalczewksi, who is white, because he is one of those boxers who blew his money for whores and drugs and contributed to boxing's image as linked to the underworld.

The Klitschkos are very good fighters and would have smoked some of those mentioned by the OP and could have given anyone a hard fight. Exciting fighters are sometimes exciting because of their lack of dominance. I am sure Holyfield would have loved to fight like Lennox Lewis, who was always smacked for his "boring" style, he just didn'zt have the tools to do it.

They aren't inept, and they aren't exactly revered here. For everyone who loves them there's someone who trashes every performance seconds after the final bell has gone, insists that journeymen from the 80's would have beaten them and belittles their every acheivment. I wouldn't be suprised if some of the negativety that comes their way has to do with them being white heavyweights.

At that time he was about the same age as Wlad is now... And why isn't that comparison fair... He had some amazing punches or combo's or sometimes a beautyfull KO, but in a lot of fights the rest was jabbing, grabbing and boring stuff.
That's exactly what they say about the K brothers.

    1. Is there a racial component for some of the Klitschko fans being Klitschko fans? Well...a lot of them are not just fans but die-hard fans and also die-hard Pavlik fans from what I've noticed...I won't say there isn't a racial thing for many. But they've got black fans too. Just like Holmes had some white fans. Could it be much more regional affiliation? Certainly a lot of folks from their part of the world having champs is a big deal. After the former soviet union countries finally had some pros, of course there's excitement. Even for...Valuev. :dead Still, they have fans of all colors and nationalities.

Now to you taking the position that they are "so inept". This is silly. You know it's silly, which is why you're baiting people with that and a race card. They're both at the top of the division. They have plenty of praise from other fighters and trainers. Nazim Richardson praised Wladimir on the level of some of the folks you mentioned as long-reigning champions, actually.

Wlad fights timidly? Yeah. And? Does timidity imply ineptitude? No. No it doesn't. He fights that way because that's how you have a long reign if you have an unreliable chin. Holmes and Ali had exceptional chins. Yet even they both still had some real stinkers in their respective reigns that many thought were overly cautious and not crowd pleasing. Say, have you ever seen one of the ugliest, most pitiful excuses of a HW title fight in history between Ali and Wepner? That **** was horrible.

    2. I'm a hotshot for pointing out an obvious inaccuracy? Okay, fair enough.
