Read any books on Oscar for those that do read ..and you will know that Oscar is a great person who is trying to clean the sport of boxing up. At the rate he's going no promoter will catch him ...trust me ....point blank.l
Vargas speaking about the Phony Boy(from Ring mag in 98). "Oscar is a fake plain and simple.Thats how i feel."
Clean up the sport of boxing? Didn't he get challenged to let the NSAC open up all test results on him?
From what I've been told by several Mexican Americans and Mexicans they really didn't care too much for him because of the way he beat Mexican legend JCC. They didn't buy his good guy act and thought he was fake. Even when Oscar and Vargas fought most Mexicans I knew were going for Vargas because they said he was more real.
he caught alot of heat for kicking JCC as twice, but he was just doing his job. So get the **** over it, what was he supposed to do let Chavez win cuz he's the legend? I swear that night, there was so much domestic violence with these macho Mexicans beating the **** out there wives cuz the wive were rooting for DLH. But now, the reason I lost respect for DLH was for the running he did against Tito in the last rounds. I would of had more respect for him if he would of got knocked the **** out while fighting, but running?
Oscar is feeling the lack of Mexican love due to the flight he took in the last few rounds against Tito. It was his biggest moment, and Oscar circled, curtsied, and ho-de-doed. Trinidad slogged away , and won the love of Puerto Rico forever.
However DLH did bring alot of excitement and bring new fans to the sport. I remember seeing him going through the olympic trials. He did have a good story. Honestly he should of never got rid of Roberto Alcazar.
They don't hate him and even though he never fought like your usual Mexican like Castillo or Margarito would, he every now and then went toe to toe, but only when he really had to. He was respected up to the point he unnecessarily took on Chavez, the pride and joy of Mexico. It was obvious Oscar would win no point in fighting Chavez who even though he was like 95-1 was not at his best weights in 140 or 147 and he was past his prime so beating Chavez proved nothing and was a lose-win situation.
