I believe they were, but it's a matter of opinion, and the only relevant point about THAT is that Hearns WAS good, whether or not he was as good as MAB and EM is another topic of conversation. Hearns WAS good indeed, That's why he one-punched Duran into sleepytime with very little effort. Benitez was good, that's why he totally outclassed Duran. SRL was good, which is why he made Duran quit in the rematch and dominated him in the rubber match. How the **** he ever slipped up enough to lose to Duran is beyond me, but I wish he hadn't, because now Duran is the greatest fighter that ever lived, because he won ONE fight against a true ATG.

You seem to know even less then...you pluck that number from boxrec like some 14 year old trying to act like an expert but you forget to put those losses into context like someone with intelligence.

Cueves turned pro at 13!!!! Those early losses were simply a boy trying to gain experience in a sport he was relatively new to..he was a complete and utter novice and not even fully grown yet.

I bet you were still wondering why you were waking up with jizz all over your sheets after dreaming about your older cousin at that age.

Whats important is how Cueves was once he matured into a man and had gained enough experience to be a world class fighter..and quite frankly he was a wrecking ball who went on a 4 year 11 fight unbeaten streak ruling over his piece of the world championship with an iron fist.

He was pretty shot and I dont really rate that as one of Duran's best wins..more name recognition and a impressive comeback performance then anything else...but you are talking **** once again bernie.

Then quit bringing up the Cuevas fight like it's some big achievement. EVERYBODY was kicking Pipino's ass at that time. You don't see me talking about Manny's victory over DLH like it's a huge achievement, and there's a reason for that.

Boxrec warrior bernie is at it again. I like Cotto, but he'd get stretched against Cuevas. If you actually watched Pipino's title fights, you'd see his quality as a fighter and his devestating power. Cuevas's early losses were a result of him not having an amateur career and turning pro at a young age...who gives a **** about those? Saying he lost 5 or so early fights doesn't say **** about his ability in his prime, it just shows that you know how to count (surprisingly). It's no secret Buchanan, De jesus, Barkley, Palomino, etc. are better wins for Duran than Cuevas, who was on the downside.

I don't know what to say about your belief that MAB, EM, and JMM are equally great as Hearns. Especially JMM. Hearns arguably has a win over SRL, outboxed him for most of the rounds in their first fight before getting stopped (a performance that ADDS to a legacy given SRL's quality), and holds wins over Benitez, Cuevas, Hill, and numerous other title holders and contenders - including some prior to him winning his first title at 147.

Yep. A lot of people get hung up on his losses to Leonard and Hagler, forgetting just how great those two guys were in their own right, along with the slew of big wins Tommy himself had in a plethora of weight classes.

Hmm. I really don't think they are quite of Hearns' calibre. Not really going to debate it here, really, but I see Hearns as a clear level above. Splitting hairs, maybe, since all three are so great.

Agreed. I see Hearns as markedly above those guys. Marquez doesn't even come CLOSE.

You are delusional there's no way Pac could have moved up in weights in that era and dominate the way he has now-no way.Hearns, hagler and leonard are greater than many welter weights today. We can only realistically compare Duran and PAC the (135 version) that's their ideal weight.I have seen the Buchanan fight that was boring as bat **** but the Diaz fight was not that great either.Morales,Jmm,and Barrera are equals to great fighters, right? so I give it to Pac but not by much.Don't call Duran overrated that's a bit harsh.

:patsch Damn Bernie i always just thought you were a Duran hater, but i didnt know you were this ignorant an uninformed when it comes to boxing. Actually your whole post was very idiotic, but the words in blue stood out. So you think Cuevas would get Pancaked today and he sucked:patsch Have you checked out his title fight record? Do you know who those guys were that he knocked out? He knocked out some top notch contenders you just dont know enough about boxing to know that.
You say Duran hardly made the LW limit during his reign? WTF:huh How do you think his championship fights were sanctioned do you think they let him weigh in at whatever he wanted and his opponents had to come in at 135? He had a lot of nontitle fights but he also went 14-0-0-13 kos in title fights where he did fight at the LW limit, also Buchanan was a legit elite fighter in his day he beat some damn good fighters do you know who Ismael laguna is well Buchanan beat him twice also beat Carlos Ortiz(although faded) beat top notch guys Carlos Hernandez,Ruben Navarro among others.

Ive come to the conclusion that you started watching boxing once you Diego Corrales won the title, cause you dont know much about boxing history.

You lost all credibility with that post.

bernie brings up excellent points!!! Who did Duran beat as I have said. You should beat greats to be a great and Duran lacks that on his resume, no matter what.
