First of all, I would like to say that I'm a fan of both Froch and Kessler and have watched both of them for some time - mostly on Youtube. The bookmakers have this fight more or less even- with Kessler being the slight favourite. I suppose the key thing is whether Kessler is on the downward slope. I would like to consider 2 points. Is Kessler the fighter he used to be? Was the performance against Ward a brave effort against the standout boxer of the Super Six tournament? Or was it a sign that Kessler's skills have started to slip? MK appointed a new trainer recently - and as we all know this can lead to deterioration as well as improvement. Froch was in deep water with Pascal and a tough fight with Taylor - at some point his punch resistance is going to soften. Is this something that we'll see against Kessler? Knocked down against Taylor, perhaps the writing is on the wall. Does prime Kessler beat prime Froch? There seems to be general agreement that Kessler is a more rounded fighter than Froch - better jab, better defense. However, awkward though he sometimes is, Froch has got the job done EVERY time he's stepped in the ring. This guy does not understand the word quit. Does Kessler have the pop to put Froch down? Does he have the combinations to finish off a wounded Froch? Can he outbox him over 12? Can he keep him off for 12? My guess, is that Kessler has lost something and we're going to see a Froch victory in the mid/late rounds.
I've wondered myself how much of the Ward fight is an exceptionally gifted and future great young fighter putting on a clinic and how much was just bad Kessler. Only time giving us some context can answer this. But if it turns out Kessler was pretty much okay for the Ward fight, just outclassed, I've got high high hopes for Ward being to SMW what Hopkins was to middleweight, lofty as that may be. Froch/Kessler is a big question mark to me. Logically, I'd go with the more sound fighter-Kessler. But I have a gut feeling that the spark is with the caveman-Froch.
I think Froch has too much speed on his side for Kessler. Froch knows how to beat quick boxers, such as Pascal, Taylor, Dirrell. Froch thrives on opponents like Kessler.
He was outboxed by Taylor and had a close one with Dirrell. I would say it is pretty much the opposite. Kessler thrives on opponents like Froch, while Carl really struggled with Taylor (who is very similar to Kessler in his style in many ways).
I think both these dudes are going into the ring knowing they're going to get exactly the fight they want, even though Kessler isn't totally certain he can handle it. Froch on the other hand, for whatever reason, still thinks he has LaMotta chin.
I see your point. And again, the fact that even he doesn't seem too sure about where he's at right now, not a good sign.
I really can't pick a winner, Froch has no defence and Kessler has poor head movement, both can bang and both have solid chins. I think its a matter who folds first. Froch and Kessler are not quitters. I really can't decide.
All your comments mean this fight = A War!!! It's a fight not to be missed. When all is said and done I think Froch will win. But it is gonna be truly awesome while it lasts and both fighters could easily leave something in the ring.
Lol. We'll see. You should change your avi to reflect the end result of the Taylor fight rather than using the only time froch has been down in his career. Kessler will go the same way only earlier :good
I think Kessler will handle Froch a beating that he'll never forget... So many people have stepped on Kessler and called him off lately that the motivation most be in top again. Even Carl Froch comes with stupid comments, but just keep it comming you're loading a bomb here... Kessler didn't look good against Ward and lost clearly, but Froch didn't look good either against Dirrel only saved by a home jugde whom allowed Froch to fight very unclean... I remember wondering if Carl Froch knew how to make one punch right:? Kessler is not just fighting for your title Carl.. he is fighting for his career and you're simply not good enough to stop it!:bbb
Kessler's confidence is shot. And he's not nearly as quick with the jab as he used to be. Froch by tko.
Kessler could win if he boxes smart and uses his skills..... I think he has all the tools to win, and could make it look like a class win...
I agree. Plus how many Kesslers are there really? I think he's been basically the same fighter his whole career - he has issues with aggressive, high-volume fighters, and probably always will.
I think Kessler's going to win, but it's going to be a competitive fight. Pre-Calzaghe Kessler would have layed a one-sided beating on Froch (much like Andrade). But since then, Kessler's had a lot of things working against him...injuries, promoter, inactivity, etc. I don't know if he's the same fighter or if Ward is just so good that he would have beaten Kessler at any time. But if Kessler can manage to absolutely dominate Froch in every way, then that will go a long way toward proving two things. 1. Ward is very good. 2. Kessler cannot fight aggressive inside fighters with speed. If this fight is competitive at all then we know Kessler has lost something.
