Have the Klitschkos ever proven their no. 1?

I think Wlad's jab is very good, but what makes it exceptional is that it is coupled with one of the best controls of distance in boxing today. He may be big, he may not be the most exciting fighter to ever grace the ring, but a powerful, fast, accurate jab which loses next to no power throughout the fight coupled with excellent control of distance makes him an extremely difficult prospect to fight. Steward has done wonders for his effectiveness.

Fair enough. The fact remains that both Klitschkos are cleaning out the division, fighting their mandatory defenses & KOing most of them.

Yeah I think they are one and two. I still rank Vitali ahead of Wlad. I wish Vitali would go ahead and retire I don't think he has anything else to prove. Unless he could get a fight with Haye or Valuev. But to this Point I think Haye vs. Wlad would be a better fight. Haye has not much of a chance if he fought Vitali. But he has a good shot at beating Wlad.

That bugs me too. Haye does not need to beat a Klitschko to be number one. It's the easiest and fastest way, but not the only way. As you pointed out, of the two guys in consideration for number one, neither has defeated a Klitschko. As, both happen to beKlitschkos If Haye (or someone else) were to defeat everyone else (or, at least most everyone), but not defeat a Klitschko, I think that could make him number one. It's unlikely, but it is technically feasible.
Is it not the same path which Wladimir (or Vitali) has taken?

Chagaev fought like once in that time he had been "longer" champ? ANd watch the fight broadcast. Even the announcers were saying it was #1 against #3. And chagaev wasnt even champion when he went into the fight. And I honestly do not remember Chris Byrd being considered #1 in the division. I'll answer your question straight out.

"Byrd was considered #1 at the time. who did you think was #1 instead?" Well lets see. Chris Byrd fought Wlad on October 14th, 2000. On November 11th 2000 Lennox Lewis defeated Davd Tua. Pretty damn sure Lennox was considered #1 over Chris Byrd at that time. So thats 0 occasoins for Wlad. Thank you for playing.

Wlad has proven it more than anyone else in 2000's
He Knocked out reigning IBF champ chris byrd in 2006
Shut out Barney Rubble for the WBO belt in 2008
2009 beat up chagaev who just defended his WBA title 3 months prior and his belt should have been on the line, but the WBA is corrupt and stripped him beforehand
in theory the guy should have all 3 belts

keep in mind, had the WBA belt been on the line, it would have all but forced david haye to fight one of these guys...... :-(

Neither Klitschko can really claim to be No1/the best as they never have and never will fight each other. Thats the frustrating thing about them.

If they weren't related and were completely seperate fighters fans would be giving them all kinds of **** for that, a la Pac and Mayweather.

I don't think the Klits should get away scot free just because they're related!

    Of course then have...

When Vitaly was retired Wlad beat Peter who was considered no. 2.

And at other times they have themselves been no. 1 and 2.

"they're" and Wlad has proven he's the man. People can ***** all they want about a two-headed champion but Wlad was the lead man when Vitali left and by the time he came back Wladimir had unified titles with an undefeated champion and Vitali came back to beat a man Wlad already beat. Wlad has been number one and big brother's comeback shouldn't be a roadblock to considering Wlad the linear champion. Especially since Vitali hadn't proved he really was indefinitely the second man with Chagaev, the undefeated WBA champion floating around...and then Wlad beat the **** out of Chagaev. He's the champion. That's it. He's number one. He proved it and we don't have a two-headed champion. Vitali's comeback has been sweet on the legacy front and a feat at 38 but he's number two at best, and yes, he has earned number two. It's late, I'm ranting, I don't even remember what the thread said now and I have no idea where I'm going so, end comment.

-Vitali and Sanders was for the vacated Ring belt after Lewis retired. They were the top ranked fighters at the time.

-After Vitali retired, Byrd was #1 and Wlad defeated him for his ranking.

-Wlad defated Chageav #3 for the Ring belt to further establish himself as The Man in the division.

-Vitali is clearly number #2 by defeating Ring #2 Peter.

-Sorry but if Haye wants the top ranking he has to beat the top two guys or wait for them to retire and win an eliminator. That's the way it is.

For the guy who doesn't believe Byrd was number one when Wlad defeated him.

Actually, either would be appropriate... "Their" number 1, possessive, as in the spot they own. "They're" number 1, descriptive, as in what they are.

Wladmir would be lineal champion now if it were not for his older brother. Nobody should expect them to fight but for as long as they both continue to fight and to win we won't see a proper heavyweight champion.
