As CRAPPY as the heavyweight division is this is an interesting matchup. Gatti/Ward showed that you do not need ATG skills to have an ATG fight. for the Heavyweight division you do not need good skills to have a good fight. As much I have bad mouthed the HW division this is one fight i would not mind seeing.

If he's in shape, I'd have to agree... If not, Adamek by UD...

Besides the Klitschkos how many heavyweights would you say beat Arreola? There may be a few guys people would put on that list. Haye, Chambers, Povetkin, but Arreola is a live guy with all those top fighters not named Klitscko. Thats why he is one of the top heavyweights. People like to focus more on his weight than his ability. Its understandable, he comes in way too fat for a professional athlete. But Arreola is a solid heavyweight.

Arreola doesn't have a strong resume, he has a few ok wins to name and thats about it and his weight is a valid critical point. But his crying after the fight is only part of the story and an insignificant one at that. The point of that fight is the way he kept trying to win despite the beating he was taken. He may be lazy outside the ring but his mental strength in the ring seems fine.

He is a brawler but is one of the better heavyweights at putting together combinations and has decent hand speed for a big guy. And I still say there are only a handful of fighters who are favorites to beat him which makes him one of the top guys in the division.

I like haye but he would never ever engage with arreola..., it would more likely look like his fight with Valuev except there could be a little bit more action as even fat , chubby arreola moves faster than giant.

Haye wont participate in any war with anybody who can seriously punch.

Remember the first thing you need for a good fight is more than 1 guy with an iron jaw.

Yea, I don't get how Arreola is considered a top HW. His best wins are against Walker and McCline. That's very thin. His claim to fame basically rests on HBO hyping him up for 6 months or so, to be America's best fighter. If Arreola were Russian and had a less colourful personality, I guarantee you he would not get anywhere near his current recognition.

Adamek outclases Arreola in every single skills department. Their power is actually equal as Arreola does not have one punch devastating power. Adamek on the other hand may ( Ulrich, Banks, Cunningham, Golota). It simply makes a big impression when a Gargoyle swings wide punches and tags someone once in a while

As far as chins, Adamek has the better chin here by the available evidence.
Check out what 1) Travis Walker's punch did to Arreola's chin 2) Jonathon Banks' punch did to Walker's chin. Banks tagged Adamek in their fight, especially in the last round. Adamek did not move.

Interesting interview quotes:

RONNIE SHIELDS:
We all know what Chris Arreola will want to do: make the ring smaller (we have 20×20 ring size in the contract), put Tomek in the corner and then put him down. But it will never happen. I’m sure Arreola has a plan B.

This is a game of high stakes; this is how it should be. We are not counting on one punch, although, just judging by how Tomek is snapping his jabs, and finishing with a right, I’m thinking more and more about making this a more aggressive fight, especially in the last 4-5 rounds.

We spoke when you just started with the former light heavy and cruiserweight champion; you said that there will be no brawling with Arreola. Did you change your mind?

No, I’m telling Tomek all the time, every day that I don’t want him to play a “I’m the man” game with Arreola. Not for first eight rounds, anyway. Then he will have a free hand, can do whatever he wants. But there will be no running at all – just changing position and fire every time Chris would like to come closer.

Are you asking Dominick Guinn, Adamek’s sparring partner, to imitate Arreola?
No, that would make no sense, Dominick is faster than Arreola. I’m just asking him to apply a constant pressure on Tomek. This is what we’re expecting from Chris. This is what we’re counting on.
* * *
DOMINICK GUINN

Some people still don’t believe Adamek belongs in the heavyweight division. What do you think?

They aren’t in the ring with him; I have been for the last couple of weeks and he definitely belongs. He’s a top 10 fighter, no doubt. Very quick on his feet and dangerous with his hands. Adamek is very explosive. He can move from defense to offense in an instant.

What about his power and Arreola’s power? Will he change when he gets hit by Chris?

You can feel Adamek’s punches. Really feel. I don’t think Arreola will be able to hit him cleanly, I seriously doubt it. Adamek doesn’t give too many chances to get him and even when you think you’ve got him, he will move and make it impossible.

When Eddie Chambers fought Wladimir Klitschko you said that he felt the power of the big Ukrainian’s and went into survival mode, not a fight mode. Could it be the same with Adamek?

That wont happen; he’s a very different person than Eddie. I know Eddie well; it was kind of expected against Klitschko. After the second round all he needed was a towel and the blanket. Adamek will not let Arreola forget he’s there to win. He will be there, trying to hit Chris from every angle. And he will win this fight.

Thanks alot for the article, very interesting.

I do question Guinn as the sparring partner though. He's 6'3 about 225 not much bigger than Adamek and while his handspeed is better than Chris's there is no way Guinn can simulate what it'll be like to be getting leaned on & bullied around by a 260lb guy if they get close with eachother. That can wear him out.

They should have at least 1 fatass who can try to physically bully him when in close to get used to it in my opinion.
