Martinez: I thought it was an even fight that could go either way.

I wasn't aware Williams had a short time as well. I knew he was getting prepared for Pavlik, but you can't say physically he wasn't ready even though he had to get ready for a southpaw instead of an orthodox like Pavlik. I didn't say a better prepared Martinez is going to automatically beat Williams, but his chances do go up. Like someone else mentioned, Martinez was there to lose against Williams, whose trainer was saying they were taking out Martinez in 3 rounds and look what happened. Williams severly underestimated Martinez.

Gotta have respect for his attitude. No bitching about it or bitterness. He is slowly becoming my favourite fighter. Would love if he managed to beat Pavlik. The lad deserves it.

 

Big props to Sergio for telling the truth. I think the fight could have gone either way, but the way Williams reacted to getting tagged by Martinez worries me. Paul is definately feeling and not liking the punches he's getting hit with, and he needs to adjust to the fact that he doesn't have the same physical strength as the guys he's fighting. I trainer like Manny Steward would really show him how to get maximum use out of his body frame. For a tall guy with a skinny neck like him, he does take a good shot, but his lack of defense is gonna get him knocked out.
Martinez is maximizing on his earning potential now. He's in his 30's, so he doesn't have many years left. He's a very good fighter, but I don't know how far he can go.

 

I rooted for Martinez and I scored the fight for Williams by 1 point.

If there was a winner in this fight, he sure as hell wasn't a clear one.

 

Martinez is class act and has respect for the officials. ****, Maravilla even called the utterly disgusting 119-110 score (**** you Pierre Beonist you corrupt son of a *****!) a "mistake". He lets the fans decide, and our polls suggest we (most of us) had him winning a close fight. Martinez clearly landed the more meaningful blows, scored the more damaging knockdown and landed at a significantly higher %, but hey, he literally had to knock Kermit the Frog out the get the draw, so I think he's actually happy he wasn't arrested for punching Williams' mouth. No robbery though other than Pierre Benoist (you peace of dog ****) scorecard.

Did I mention Pierre "I'm blind as **** and cheaper than a *****" Benoist?

 

I won't argue with that. One of the most bizzare scorecards I've seen in a long time. Don't know wtf he was watching.

 

Martinez lost for two reasons. 1) When he very clealry had PW hurt at the end of the 1st round he failed to maintain the momentum and put him away. 2) He simply did not do enough to win, especially not in the last half of the fight. If it wasn't for the one goofy scorecard there would be no controversey.

OH! Found one... by the time Sergio landed the KD, the clock was down below like 5 seconds from what I remember. There wasn't any time left. When Pau came out for the second round, it was too late. Sergio had lost his opportunity to put him away initially.
