A friend was tellin me there that andy lee was on newstalk earlier and apparently top rank want to sign him! any1 know anything about this?
I'm not sure if Andy was on Newstalk, but he wasn't on their sports show. However, Bob Arum was and said he has been trying to sign Andy for a long time now but it never materialises due to problems with Andys management team.
Heard that, very good interview with Arum. He sounded more interested in Macklin then Lee. He also said that Duddy would fight Chavez Junior in June in San Antonio and that Chavez was now training with Fredde Roach. He said if Duddy gets by Chavez he would match him with Pavlik before the end of the year.
Ive been on holiday for a week - what have I missed... Also ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for Mr Steve Wellings, who took over the website for the past week, and appears to have done an excellent job. (Cheers SBW for the articles as well).
Lads, Alio will be running another show on 8th May in Holiday Inn, Belfast (see details below). Alio runs great shows and the last one was a crackin nights boxing, plus the Holiday Inn is an ideal venue. Tickets only £30 and availible from all boxers/promoter/manager and the gym, telephone numbers on posters or Alio on - 07880 926 596 Boxers - Luke Wilton, Phil Townley, Niall Diamond, Paul Keyes (Pro Debut), Brian Cussack (Pro Debut), Micheal Harvey, and more. *Bouts to be confirmed and subject to change* Possibly even another special appearence by Former World Champion - Graham Earl."
That should be a good night Gasman, I'll be going along with some of the fellows out of work.As I said before Alio shows never fail to entertain. I take it yourself and Steve will be covering this show same as before?
Aye Ardy, I will be there and I am sure Steve will too, unless it clashes with something else. Nice little sampler of Barney Eastwood's book in yesterday's Irish News and very good write up by David Kelly in the Belfast Telegraph - gotta get a copy of this today:good
Why havent they listed Willie Thompson on this card? Interesting - leaving him off so he doesnt have to face Chris O'Brien - pretty embarrassing actually!
Think Willie trains at John Breens now and not with Alio any more so maybe thats why hes not on this show. By the way Chris O'Briens two draws over 6 two minutes rounds with that journeyman don't exactly inspire confidence that he is good enough to go much further than the level he is currently at. Not knocking the guy or anything and I wish him all the best but hes 8 fights into his career and yet to go beyond 12 scheduled minutes of action.
He probably won't go to much further than the level he's at and he knows it aswell. The biggest thing that he wants is an Irish title. He knows that would be his limit. Putting him against willy Thompson in my opinion wouldn't be a massive step up for him but it could bennift both boxers. Just got a book that might intrest some of yas... Jacobs beach, the mob the garden and the golden age of boxing. Got it yesterday and I'm about half way through it. Great read and hard to put down
