A very interesting choice of words from someone who has the moniker "Worcester warrior". Had you been involved in this thread earlier or the one leading up to the Smith vs Dodson fight you would have noticed that Paul Smith did NOT join in the debate on HIMSELF. He decided to show up and share his thoughts AFTER he won. Would he have posted on here had he NOT won? Doubtful isn't it? Had HE been involved earlier, then you could say he joined in the debate. You refer to me as an anorak yet you are credited with over 1000 posts!!!??? HHHHMMMMM, interesting. :huh There are guys who post on here a hell of a lot more than me. All I do is come on for a boxing chat and the banter. Banter may be a new thing for you as you're probably sat on a rocking chair with Grandma, chewing straw, while cousin John-boy plays the banjo on a remote farm in the middle of nowhere. But that's okay. It won't be held against ya. :good But you can ask the few regular posters on the Smigga - Dodson threads, I credit Paul for coming through the fight with them cuts, he showed a lot of heart. And no. I won't retire from the forum. I will continue enjoying sharing my opinion with other boxing fans and slack-jawed yokels like yourself, alike. Aye thang yaw.
I was working offshore until today so just watched the fight, and I got it wrong as well. Had dodson by late stoppage, but Mick Williamson done a hell of a job there like. Fair play to Paul, he had all the answers on the night and deserves to move on now. And to be fair he deserves to come on and gloat after that performance, no-one should have a pop about that. He looks like the type of fighter that needs a good opponent to get the best out him, good luck in the future.
I'll have that, great articulate post. Must admit I was backing Quigley but that was a strictly personal thing, also this 'doorman' thing you say now & again, I've met you once or twice mate & you were saying the same thing (you were pissed to be fair & I was even worse) which is fair enough but I just thought 'oh change the record will ya' if you get me. The 'cut from a different cloth' comment didn't help either due to the scrappy performance that preceeded it, but as you have since said you can only fight what is put in front of you, and a British Title win is bound to gee you up somewhat. Fair enough. In the build up to the Dodson fight I was indifferent, but towards the end was most definitely backing you, Tony seemed to turn the war of words a tad smutty, I mean, I'm into selling fights but Tony seemed to have a slightly poor attitude, whereas your comments seemed bang on target. Then you went on to answer most of your critics in the ring, showed great heart, and have come on here to put your point across in a decent manner. No harm in that whatsoever. Fair play to you mate, would love to see you get a crack at that WBO sometime soon. Best of luck.
lets just get a few things straight here,i wasnt the one who started all the bad comments about me and paul, it was his remarks at how he would knock me and tony quigley out in the same night {which he didnt do} that started all this, as for winning convincingly?the boxing news had him winning by one round, which if i hadnt got a point taken away it would have been a draw but hey look i didnt deserve the decision i dont want anyone to think that iam being a sour loser iam far from it paul was and is the champion,he forced the pace and was the agresser, i had a game plan and for the 1st time in my life i actually stuck to it and that was to box and move not get drawn in to a brawl. Lets get some facts straight i havent been active enough to sustain a full 12 rounds like i did against quigley i was in the best shape i have ever been in for the fight with paul but lets put it like this,if we took wayne rooney off the pitch now in the form he is in and didnt let him kick a football for 12 months then do you honestly think that he would come bk on play a full 90 mins and be in the form he is currently in now ?Dont think so guys LISTEN this isnt an excuse this is just a fact a busy fighter is a better fighter its that simple. So I won, convincingly, was too strong for him, too durable, too fit and too brave. The warrior showed no heart and didn't want to win. Had his own heart broke when he didn't hurt me with his best shot in the 6th round and was desperate for the fight to end on cuts. - Simple "guys" ?What the hell is all that about HE BROKE MY HEART ?bollocks he done nothing at all but give me confidence that i do still have the tools to do things at british title level, lets not forget you are ranked 4 in the world by the W.B.O and have been busy getting rounds in which i carnt knock you for but fact is a busy fighter is a better fight as i have said look the fight should have been stopped on them cuts ive been stopped for a lot less, but fair play to you paul you stuck in there didnt panic and i give you credit for that,as for hitting you with my best shot in the 6th? Dont know why you think that was my best shot i just caught you as you was walking in with your head down as you do,but look at the end of the day he won its that simple and good luck to him in the future. As for not deserveing respect as you have written i like to think ive done enough in my time as a fighter to have earned that from the people that matter good luck to you in the future paul and thanks to all the fans that came and supported on both sides.PS sorry it took so long for reply to these threads as i had to make another account as i forgot my password and they didnt send me an email to reset but hay better late than never .cheers Tony Dodson
dont hate paul smith at all buddy iam not a hater ive just explained why its a new account iam tony dodson buddy
Tony, i respect you to a certain extent for coming on here and saying what you are saying i.e. you lost and you accept that. But, according to you before the fight, you trained for the best paul smith, and were in the shape of your life, and you were going to smash him etc. There was no talk from you as a caution that you had been inactive for as long as you were, only after. If you two were fighting a meaningless 8 rounder, then the fight would have been stopped, but it was a championship fight, so you have to expect the ref to give each fighter fair opportunity to continue. At the end of the day tony, you state you hadn;t been active enough to sustain 12 rounds of boxing, so why take the fight? As harsh as this sounds, as much as you say you have respect for the winner and so on, it just sounds to me like a bit of a rant to make us all understand why you didn't perform etc. End of the day tony, you didn't bring it on the night, and i think it is a combination of you NOT having it in you to compete at that level any more, and the fight paul fought. It wasn't as close as having one point in it in reality, and to be fair boxing news aren't known for their accurate scoring of fights. I wish you well in your future tony, But i feel you need to have a sit down and consider if your future lies in british level boxing.
thanks for the reply mate dually noted iam not making excuses it was a fight i couldnt refuse its that simple i had to take a gamble and it didnt pay off
whats the plan now tony? gonna take some time off? - hope not as you say an active fighter is a better fighter, so you going to keep active? do u reckon someone like degale could be a future opponent? how do you reckon you'd do against him/groves/anderson?
