I'm interested in any thoughts and info on Wegner. He's been fairly prolific, working with the dynamite-fisted Arthur Abraham and the maligned feather-fisted Sven Ottke. I've heard some German fans remark on some funny quotes from him. Sort of sarcastic, dry stuff from in the corner. I'd like some insights into his personality, relationships to his famous fighters, etc. Seems like an interesting subject. Most of the time I've watched bits with him in AA fights, it's been a German broadcast and after "Runde" something, I don't know what the hell they're saying.

His Wikipedia page reads something terrible and is barely informative.

    Really, read this:

I think somebody just ran something through a free translator, German to English, then had that little green guy from star wars put his own slant on it. Anyway, let me know your thoughts on Wegner, please. :good

He seem to be a trainer who's great at talking his fighters through a fight and he keeps things simple.
I think he get's alot out of his fighters, and he is very confident in his style of coaching.

And yes he's got some funny quotes especially when he's in the corner during a fight.

The first half of the text is obviously a free translation of the corresponding sentence from the German Wikipedia article about Ulli Wegner.

It should read something like this:

"In the end, Wegner was persuaded by Wilfried Sauerland to move to a professional team. The change took place immediately after the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Since then, Wegner trains up to 10 boxers in the Team Sauerland ("sour land", funny indead...)"

The last part of the article is not to be found in the German Wikipedia, either it was there before but has been removed, or it has been copied from somewhere else. But I think one can get the overall idea how the sentence should read if translated halfway correctly :)

He has a terrible taste in music, this is his favorite singer:

Apart from that, he's a great guy... honorary citizen of his home town Penkun in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania! :good

It's always amusing to listen to his advise when he's in the corner, especially in an Abraham fight.

He basically does the good cop, bad cop trick, but simply changes personality between these two characters between rounds. I wish Showtime would hire a good German translator for the fight at the weekend. Somebody who knows the fight game and can actually understand Wegner's Berlinerisch dialect.

He is infamous in Germany for yelling at his fighters in the corners, usually something the effect of

"Are you kidding me? Where the hell is your discipline. Start boxing and stop acting like a circus clown!"

    True old-school Prussian discipline.

Sdunek is semi retired now an I think in the last years Wegner has had much more success with his warriors. But Sdunek clearly has the lead to Wolke :D

You are right, Fritz Sdunek is semi retired. He only trains VK and will quit training, when Vitali has retired.
I like Wegner´s personality, he´s got balls and is not afraid of yelling at his fighters if they´re doing ****.
I personally think that Sdunek had the better fighters:
VK, WK,Boytsov,Dimitrenko, Erdei, Gevor, Juan Carlos Gomez,Michaelczewski,Mario Veit, Zbik and Samil Sam, whereas Wegner has and had:
Ottke, Beyer, Huck, Urkal and AA
