IMHO, Miranda's biggest problems are that he is slow, crude, chinny and undiscipline. His biggest assets are his power and heart. Even with discipline, Miranda would not have beaten Abraham, Pavlik or Ward. :huh
With discipline imho he would have beaten Pavlik (sorry Hermit) and maybe Abraham, but Ward would have taken more than discipline. I agree with your previous post that when push comes to shove most fighters revert back to what they do best and feel comfortable at doing. Could 9 months of Joe Goossen tutelage be enough to make him feel comfortable doing something different? I am hoping so, but wont believe it till I see it.
Rudel Obreja current President of the Romanian Boxing Federation want's to bring Bute to Bucharest for a big match(i guess every match counts as big when come's to Bute in Romania ). The world champion says that are big chances for this fight to take place , if the political class will be involved (to finance the event i guess),and he says the famous american tv channel HBO will be involved(i doubt it). Match for the wolrd title on Steaua (pronounced [ˈste̯awa] ) stadium (the name is Ghencea) capacity of 28,139 The chances that this will be achieved are quite high, Romanian champion is very optimistic. "I just got back from training and I am a little tired. Even if i'm in Miami that doesn't means that i don't know what happens in Romania , i'm updated about everything ,but the talks are not over yet so i can't say that the fight will take place.Anyway for me is an honor and a pleasure to box in front of the romanians. All the time I wanted it, to defend my belt in Romania and I hope to do so. Obreja: where closer and closer to bring Bute's fight in Romania at the end of July. We're in advanced talks.Just yesterday (No - Wednesday) I spoke to Lucian and it was more than excited. It will be a fight in which he will defend his title or unifies the belts. It depends very much on funding that we will receive . If the fight will take place in Romania it will be on a stadium I proposed Cotroceni (holds 14,542 people) and Steaua was proposed by someone else(i guess the guys with the finances ) confirmed yesterday, Rudel Obreja, president of Box FR, but did not say and what the budget is I can't speak about how much it will cost, because I did not realize(organize) it, but there are many expenses, outside main-event's As for me I think that Romania is ready for a such an event, especially since if one involved is the political, led by sports minister, to organize such a thing The article is in Romanian ...i translated in english http://www.gandul.info/sport-miscare/lucian-bute-un-meci-la-bucuresti-o-reclama-imensa-pentru-romania-cat-ar-trebui-sa-dea-statul-pentru-ca-un-astfel-de-meci-sa-se-tina-in-romania-5778051
End of July, that means it cannot be the winner of the Bika-Brinkley fight, which will likely be presented in Quebec city on May the 28th. Not enough time to train for Bika (I assume he wins) and mostly to negociate something. It that's a unification, that means Stieglitz, and if the negociations are well advanced, that means the Stieglitz camp has given its price. Mmm... Pantera, it's time to tell us not to take the nex fight for granted!
HBO won't cross the road FFS. Depends on how much they want to build him up and how the double header plays out would be my guess. Really though, I doubt it.
If they do, they wouldn't pay much for it, and it would have to be the B-side of another fight. HBO hasn't been buying foreign fights lately, and for good reason. They don't get ratings when it's aired outside of prime time or on tape delay. If he fights in Romania, I imagine it would be against a scrub. A fight in Romania, where boxing isn't exactly popular, probably draws the same whether Bute fights Stieglitz or Jean Paul Mendy.
Edison Miranda training for Lucian Bute In preparation for his April 17th IBF world title fight against Lucian Bute, Edison Pantera Miranda has been training in Van Nuys, CA with his new trainer Joe Goossen. The two have now been working together for nine months, and Miranda claims his training is going perfect. “I connected with Joe the first day we met, and I have seen myself get better and better over the months. I believe Joe has been the missing ingredient for me to get the belt. Now that he’s in my corner, I realize I can achieve whatever I want.” With three weeks until the fight, Miranda appears ready to go. “Since I moved out to Van Nuys nearly a year ago, I have re-dedicated my life to boxing. I’ve been training six days a week for several hours each day. I have never felt more mentally or physically prepared for a fight than I do now. Because of the continuous hard training, even my weight has been where it should be.” The super middleweight fight, which will take place at the Bell Centre in Montreal, will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing. On that same night, HBO will also be televising from Atlantic City Kelly Pavlik defending his middleweight titles against Sergio Martinez. It is anticipated to be a very special night of boxing. “I have been to Montreal a couple times now, and I love this city because they love boxing. I know Lucian Bute is their hero, but I also know the fans want to see a show. I will give the fans of Montreal the show they deserve. I am not going there just to get paid. I am going there to beat Bute, and that is exactly what I expect to do. I respect him for his talents and accomplishments, but when I’m at my best, which is where I am now, he is no match for me.” Miranda went on to say “The fans of Montreal will not be sad when Bute loses his title. Instead, they will recognize my talent and the huge passion I have for the sport of boxing. After my victory, they will be happy for me because I will have given them the show they are paying for. They will witness a fearless panther in that ring with strength and desire, and I will look forward to returning to Montreal to defend my belt in front of these same fans. They are among the best fans in the world, and they deserve it.”
What I was thinking as I was reading these reports. I like it though. Think ahead... Sounds familiar. These are the fights when the upsets seem to happen more frequently and shock you unrealistic fans. This fight has all the ingredients for an upset in the making. Damn, I am starting to gain some confidence. :thumbsup
The article does make it sound like Bute and his team are thinking ahead but in an interview on tv last week Bute clearly said he told his team not to talk to him about any future plans. He wants his mind to be 100% on Miranda. Don't know if it's still the case.
