Joe Frazier failed to reverse a defeat against Foreman. How would Norton have fared between 1976/77 ? Someone asked me this question a couple of days ago. I feel that this rematch would also end in failure for Norton. A slightly more cautious Foreman would box a bit more than slug in the early rounds, thus it would last longer than their first fight, but as soon as Norton gets hurt, the writing would be on the wall. Foreman by ko within six.

Yes. Ken isn't beating George in any rematch...in my opinion.

I don't think that Norton is ever beating Foreman no matter what the circumstances were.. There is a chance however, that it might have been a better fight, had it happened in the late 70's.. Norton's skills had improved a bit, and he would likely have been more cautious the second time around.... Meanwhile, Foreman's head was no longer in the game and his bullying style was starting to fail him in some of his fights, which is why he needed an all new aproach in his comeback years.... My guess is that this fight goes a bit longer, perhaps to rounds 6-7, with Norton taking a round or two of the action.. At the end of the day however, he ends up horizontal again...

This would be very similar to the second Liston/ Patterson fight ,ie a re- run of the first.

Norton had no belief he could beat Foreman, even if he did have that belief, he didnt have the chin to take what Foreman had.

I agree, 6 rd TKO sounds about right.

I think it'd have been like Frazier rematch. Norton would do a little better, Foreman wouldn't be as profoundly aggressive and confident but it would have probably ended in the fifth or six with more boxing but Norton still ending up getting it.

Same basic result would occur........... Norton was fearful of serious punchers with shear power......... Norton's skills were good, but his psych was fragile........ Friggin' Norton needed to be hypnotized for some of his fights........... GEEZ!

Foreman caught Frazier by surprise in their first meeting, and an utterly shot Joe accordingly adapted as best he could in their rematch. Norton, on the other hand, had a pretty good idea of what he was in for in Caracas, tried to retreat and box, to no avail. Kenny was not a past prime post FOTC Frazier, having several of his best career wins ahead of him. A valid argument can be made that the Frazier of 1969 and 1970 would have been able to drown George in deep water. But Foreman did defeat a clearly prime Norton with ease, and that pattern was replicated by Shavers and Cooney.

norton still gets knocked out. this was closer to his primed years but norton still has that style that is very vulnerable to punchers. the way he comes forward is a target for a puncher like cooney, shavers, or paticulary foreman. no way is he beating foreman in any rematch.

More of the same....another 2 round or maybe 1 round ko for George...in a rematch Foreman would have been even more lethal knowing how he did it the first time, and Norton's confidence level would have been even lower than it was the 1st time. Norton wan't confident going into fights with big punchers...how about one who had already detroyed him before? Morton's style was even more limited than and even less condusive to winning against Foreman than even Frazier's.
