I need to rewatch Mayweather/Judah. While the Philly Shell dose lead one open to a lead left, it makes it eisier to fire the lead right. Which is the key punch in fighting a southpaw. Also I think most if not all defensive styles are better suitted against orthodox boxers rather southpaws.
I stopped reading when he implied Mayweather was going to walk down Pacquiao with a high guard atsch...if Mayweather does this, Pacquiao would have a massive advantage. Not because Mayweather can't go on the offense, but just because it will play into Pacquiao's hands. Pacquiao will want Mayweather to open up because it's his best chance at beating him.
What all of you Pac fans fail to see is that the drug test would change the entire dynamic of the fight. If he can't juice will he still throw all of those punches? Will he still not gas? Pac's whole game of late has been based on PHYSICALLY dominating guys. It is obvious this isn't a skill issue because even with that anemic punch output Clottey was able to punch him AT WILL. Pac is going to retire without fighting Mayweather. With the drug tests he KNOWS he is going to get embarrassed.
Just rewtched Mayweather/Judah. Mayweather did use a more conventional style but he also used the philly-shell at times as well. I think the key to this fight and possibily to a fight between Mayweather and Pacquiao. Is that Mayweather was the more assertive and agresive boxer. It is said that Pacquiao is much better going forwards than he is going backwards. I think Mayweather could press the action against Pacquiao as well. I think that Mayweather is going to target Pacquiao's body espicialy in the early rounds. Mayweather has talked about how Pacquiao has been knocked out with body shots before. Another thing to kep in mind about the Judah fight was that the rounds that Judah won Mayweather was landing body shots. That no dobut slowed Judah down. They would probbly do the same to Pacquiao.
dude, see for yourself in his fights and learn about philly shell. as people have pointed out, it can work against southpaws but it is dangerous and if anyone thinks mayweather will risk doing that against pacs speed and flurries, then they dont know mayweather's style and thinking well enough. but this doesnt mean mayweather will 'open up' as much as u would think. there wont be many combos and he's going to be careful and look for pacquiao when he thinks hes off balance or try to lure him into subtle traps. all in all, he wont give many openings to pac, pac will have to work for them with feints, combos and his own traps.
go to the 2min 45 mark for the replay version [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3PZHsyRhVVI&feature=related[/ame] Btw yes it has been a big deal for floyd to take a big shot. his defense is great. but a lot of that is because people think about may in the philly shell. hes still a great fighter with high guard but it takes a lot away from his game. if he were hit as much as he was hit by corley and judah throughout his career, he wouldnt be nearly as renowned for his defence. hes only been stunned or hit big by these two southpaw fighters, never an orthodox figher.
Corley was swinging and he was sluggish. floyd could roll to that, as like i said it was slow and they were hooks. what u cant roll to against a southpaw however, are their straight lefts and thats why he didnt roll against zab, beacuse zab fought a mainly jabs and straights fight....the exact kind that pacquiao fights.
Good post. I've been saying this forever too. People think this fight will look like Floyd - Hatton or something, when they don't understand boxing at all. When your fighting a southpaw, everything is backwards (litterally). It's a very tough fight for Floyd.
Keep this info handy for yourself especially for after the conclusion of the Pac - Mayweather fight. This content is protected This content is protected
......(My response to the highlighted "sentence"). My comment explained (in my opinion) why Mayweather will not adopt the style of backing up Pacquiao with a high guard...whether or not Pacquiao will land his many punches or not, his punches will attract the judges attention!
