The weigh ins are complete and everyone made weight except Rory Markham, who came in at 177lbs for his welterweight fight with Nate Diaz. The bout will go ahead with Markham deducted a portion of his purse. Frank Mir has joined the ranks of the UFC's super heavyweights, having to cut to make the 265lbs limit. MAIN CARD Champ Georges St-Pierre (170) vs. Dan Hardy (170) Shane Carwin (265) vs. Frank Mir (265) Fabricio Camoes (155) vs. Kurt Pellegrino (155) Jon Fitch (171) vs. Ben Saunders (169) Mark Bocek (154) vs. Jim Miller (155) PRELIMINARY CARD (Spike TV) Nate Diaz (171) vs. Rory Markham (177) Ricardo Almeida (170) vs. Matt Brown (170) PRELIMINARY CARD (Un-aired) Tomasz Drwal (185) vs. Rousimar Palhares (186) Jared Hamman (205) vs. Rodney Wallace (206) Matthew Riddle (170) vs. Greg Soto (170)
Looking forward to watching it. Don't know what Markham was playing at coming in at 177. Drwal vs Palhares should have been promoted to the main card ahead of the Pellegrino fight. :-(
Decent enough card. Fitch is always good value. Not sure about Hardy being a main event type of guy. Can see GSP schooling him a la Penn / Sanchez.
How did Mir look? Did he look pudgy, or did he add weight on the right way? I haven't watched much of the build up so I don't really know. I'm pumped for Carwin/Mir! Mir Sub 1 Carwin via gogoplata.
Hardy can make things happen as long as they are on there feet, but GSP is too well rounded to keep it there. I see a repeat of GSP/Alves. I'm rootin for my boy Carwin to show us he belongs in there with the best. I saw some pics and his height seems exaggerated but none the less I hope to see Mir beat into the ground again. But seriously I think Mir may finish with a hold
I think this is the fight where we get to see how good Mir's BJJ really is. Fighting a seasoned wrestler who has clear power advantage, respects, and is well aware of Mir's submission abilities. This, is a good tune up fight for Mir for Lesnar. I think, how he fares in this fight will give us an idea of how well he could do against Lesnar, granting he actually wins.
GSP looked even more shredded than usual. He's a super athlete, his technique is ridiculous and he's strong and big. Hardy isn't an athlete, he's not nearly as coordinated as GSP. He's an average guy who can fight well but there's nothing about him that's special. He will get handled, taken down and completely controlled and eventually GNP'd out
Mir looks like ripped at 265... than again muscles don't win fights, well see how he does tomorrow... and GSP is gonna school hardy.
haha he wasn't ripped. Leaner than his fat fight shape last fight though. GSP is ripped! So Mir is now Lesnars size? Didn't he fight lesnar at like 245 last time? Not sure how adding 20 pounds so fast is going to make him a better fighter, right now. Sure, he Ko'd chinny Kongo but 20lbs will slow anyone down, especially gaining it that rapidly.
check the slideshow out. Hardy's showing he's been rattled mentally in my opinion. He seemed a lot less confident, not really any confidence at all IMO http://www.fightnewsextra.com/cc/UFC2010/03-ufc111weighin/
My god I love watching Toquinho; deadly leg locks. Probably should haved let go of that a little quicker though.
Christ... Joe started counting like he'd just drank a gallon of coffee before the tapout which was in slow-motion and he thinks it 5 seconds between the tapout and when he let it go. I´m betting it around 2 sec max. Does Goldberg have to end every sentence with "Joe", we already know he's talking to the guy. Really don't like these commentators.
