Calzaghe vs Pavlik: Why didnt this fight happen?

Calzaghe reads this board and he took it seriously when Boo mentioned Pavlik would murder him in eight. So, he retired.

 

Bottom line? After calling Kelly out it turns out Joe didn't want the fight after all. Not even open for discussion. The history is written on this one.

 

calzaghe took the jones fight , simple as that.

in hindsight he might have wished for his legacy he took the pavlik fight, or maybe he is happy with the money he got from jones as he retired after.

pavlik was offered a calzaghe fight in the summer of 2006 .

the offer was around 400k and pavlik would have had to have stepped up in weight to 168 and fought in the uk, the offer was refused and calzaghe fought bika.

 

To be fair, Pavlik was the one who wanted this fight, Calzaghe wasn't interested and went for the Jones Jr. fight instead. Pavlik, who tried to enforce that fight, moved up to fight Hopkins who Calzaghe beat in an attempt to beat Hopkins more convincingly and hopefully force the Calzaghe team to consider him. This can't be denied.

Calzaghe took the Jones fight as a payday. He would have fought Pavlik if Pavlik beat Hopkins, guaranteed. But plodder Pavlik got exposed as a hyped-up wardrobe with a jab and miniscule boxing ability. It's irrefutable.

 

Pavlik would have been murdered worse than Nard done him!

 

First, Pavlik was on an injury layoff at that time because of his hand.

Second, he was a MW prospect and the SMW champ is calling him out?

Third, his best win would have been Zunigna? Why would Joe have offered him that fight? Makes no sense. He certainly would have been subject to ridicule had the fight happened then.

Fourth, Joe and pops only made this claim after he retired. I've never seen anything to substantiate this claim at all.

 

Even though I agree but Calzaghe wasn't interested in fighting him and thought Jones Jr., who he admitted on TV is beyond washed up and a pointless fight, is a better fight.

 

Joe is on tape around the interenet saying that Pavlik was "the fight". Not sure if it is still up but it has been in old threads and I'm sure you know that.
