the only thing i didn't like about joes performance was that he carried roy for the last 4 rounds and let him finish the bout out of respect and to also enjoy the last few rounds of his boxing carear. it almost seems as though we got robbed of seeing jones getting his grade A china chin smashed to smitherines.
Totally insignificant. Jones has been shot for years and wouldn't last 2 rounds against his former self. The Hopkins win meant more at Least Hopkins can still operate at a world class level despite being past his prime. Jones hasn't had a significant win since Tarver1.
I would say good. Jones hadnt been beaten for 2 years though had only fought modest opposition in that time, but alot of polls were predicting a Jones victory and writers that werent predicting Jones thought it was going to be a hard fight. So I think good is a fair call, but cant say higher due to Jones's decline
Because Calzaghe knew Jones was completely shot as he said it on record at least twice that we can be certain of.Think about it.Calzaghe came out and said he would never fight Jones because Jones was shot due to his bad ko losses to Tarver and Jones years before and then signs to fight him and swears he's still top notch.Calzaghe is a liar with 0 credibility as far as speaking the truth is concerned.I've never seen Lennox making the same claim about Tyson and then contradicting himself at a later occasion. Please set up a link if you know of such an occasion.Cheers:good
I know of nobody that thought Jones was going to win or that it was even going to be a hard fight. The signing of the fight was after Jones' victory over even more shot former welterweight Tito Trinidad at 170.AND Jones couldn't even knock HIM out.
It was an okay win. Jones was admittedly shot but looked half decednt against hand picked opposition up to Calzaghe. It was Calzaghe's last hurrah and a last shot for Jones.
Yeah, I don't think anyone is arguing that Jones was prime or anything and the statements Calzaghe made were before he reeled off a few wins.
Just for the record,Headbanger,Joe carried Jones for 4 rounds OUT OF RESPECT for Jones even though he was showboating(thoroughly deserved as Jones was a serial showboater in his career)throughout against an obviously shot Jones?Last time I checked, showboating isn't very respectful. You're contradicting there, matey.
I dont think Jones tried to KO Trinidad, I think Jones said he was going to KO Trinidad before the fight to sell the fight. Jones appeared to carry Trinidad and toy with him in the last half of their fight. The prediction of a hard fight was in Boxing monthly saying it would be hard for Joe with what the writer thought would be Joe getting an unpopular decision and the poll I mentioned was mentioned on S Bunces boxing program which used to be on Setanta saying it was 60% in Jones favour
Interestingly put, there,Kerrigan.I think you have the makings of a new thread there.I believe we'll be seeing that on these boards soon.
REALLY?I'm surprised to hear that. You're saying Jones admitted that he was going to carry Trinidad to sell the fight?Doesn't that indicate that the fight was a farce and, wouldn't that indicate even further that Trinidad was shot?I'm from New York and EVERYONE that I know that might've bought a ticket(including myself)to that one didn't bother because they knew it was going to be a one-sided affair in JC's favor. What I'm astonished at is that there are those on these boards that justify that victory as being anything but insignificant.
