I agree with you however he does need a few more big fights that will make the rest of his career stand out.

Lot of people dont like him at all....but quite a few like what he can do in the ring and nobody can agrue with his speed, evasion and defence.

ASHLEY... UNFULFILLED means just that. Sands left the game without the 'paper work' done. He was never crowned. Yes, his status would have been on par with Darcy and higher than Rose..

Just to give another angle.. Lets pretend Lionel Rose retired after his war with Alan Rudkin at Kooyong.. or something else happened to him... Forget the rest of his career as it happened...

If you can do that, you have a bloke in a better position than Dave Sands. Period. Now you can forget the rest of the Dave Sands' career that did not happen and basing his warranted #1 on what is not written.

Ok....fair enough....however how do you take into account all the "L" Rose had late?

If he left the game after his second loss after the title loss he would be undesputed number 1.....staying in the game and getting beaten 8 more times by unranked fighters brings his standing down IMO

Just trying to learn and I am taking notice of what youre saying :hi:

Ash if you knew what Lionel went through making weight you would realise why people rate him so high. Please believe me he was the best we ever had. Nobody comes close.

What has he done???? Honestly, what has he done to be rated higher??

Yep.. he beat a drained Green. He beat Antwon Echols. He beat Sam Soliman. He beat Geale and ran from a rematch.

I think he's rated too high in reflection. Basing his position on half arse bull**** belts does not work for me. I believe there is something left in the tank, otherwise he'd be rated 19.

All of the 'L's were due to being BURNT OUT... Lionel was not a professional fighter in the tail end of his career. He wouldnt train, continued his pack a day habit, drunk like a fish and played up a lot more too. Worry about the pinnacle of his career.. it outweight the entire careers of most.

Simple Flash, to be a Star in a period of the "Best Bantamweight Era", Lionel Rose is the deserved number 1. Who else has reached the heights??????????????????????

I know mate I was just annoying you. I rate Lionel so high because being a hasbeen I know how losing weight can make a good fighter turn into a complete novice. I fought a guy called Pat Legliese one night. I took off 28lb in 3 weeks to make jnr welter. To last 12 rounds was a miracle in itself. Lionel did things like that all his career and still beat the best bantamweight boxers in the world. And in there backyards.

That win by Pat Leglise really made an impact on my own rating of him.. But, perhaps like Ash may have not known, the dramas Lionel had behind the scenes and after fights.. he went through hell in every preparation for a title defence... IMO, Castillo was the last time he should have fought at Bantam. Even Rudkin was too much with the heat and exhaustion.
