Here's who I think are the top 10 Asian boxers today: 1. Manny Pacquiao 2. Chris John 3. Nonito Donaire/Pongsaklek Wonjongkam (tied) 5. Vic Darchinyan 6. Amir Khan/Poonsawat Kratingdaenggym (tied) 8. David Tua/Gerry Penalosa/Toshiaki Nishioka/Arthur Abraham (tied) I know that's 11 boxers and not 10, but there was a 4 way tie for 8th. place. Vic Darchinyan and Arthur Abraham are Armenian, and Armenia is often considered part of Asia. I could not determine if Marcos Rene Maidana is Asian or not (or even part Asian), and therefore did not consider him. I based my choices on a boxer's overall career record, and recent accomplishments. Level of competition is also considered, and fighting on foreign soil especially in America.
The guy makes a top 10 list with 11 people in and misses out, in my opinion, the 2nd best Asian fighter right now :nut
:nut Khan was born and raised in England and never even lived in Pakistan. Abraham only moved to Germany later in his life. Are Matthew Macklin and Frankie Gavin Irish or English??
We are asian, but I think a lot of Filipino-Americans are taught to check on the PACIFIC ISLANDER box whenever a legal document is asking what your race is, instead of ASIAN. Because, for example, you wanna enter a university, and you checked on the ASIAN box, you will be bunched with other asian enrollees (Orient/far East, Southeast asia, Middle east, south asia, etc.) There are a LOT of asians. And you might not make the quota for minorities. But if you check PACIFIC ISLANDER, you only have to be bunched together with not so densely populated islands like Tonga, Samoa, Fiji, Vanuatu, Kiribati, etc. It's all strategic, I think. By the way.. Tua isnt asian. He's a Pacific islander.
