Long gone are the days GSP is picking people apart with stand up and looking to K people TFO , now that he's that good a wrestler he's content to stay in guard or half guard and G&P for 5 rounds , that aint the GSP i as an mma fan fell in love with , and last night i did the impossible in round 4 of his fight i went to bed , why ???? because i was bored shitless and i knew what the outcome would be . Do not take this the wrong way and bombard me with " you cant say that about GSP " , " thats a shocking statement " , your an idiot " etc etc etc , i understand mma and i know the technical ability involved in having a good wrestling base coupled with a good top game , and i respect GSP as he's so good on top and actually securing the take down in the first place , not once or twice a round but consistantly over a 5 round fight its impressive yes , but **** its boring to watch ..................... Standing by for the **** storm :deal
i actually agree... i wasnt to intrested in seeing the fight after the 1st round cause it was obvious what was going to happen i dont think he should sacrifice potential wins by striking more or mixing it up more, but i can honestly say, unless he stepped up to MW i probably wouldnt be intrested in seeing him fight at this point in time
He's become too good, that is the problem. Incredibly lopsided fights are going to seem boring. it's the same criticism that gets leveled at PBF. He's punished for being overly dominant.
He nearly ripped Hardy's arm off twice. He is more cautious, don't see him bust the spinning back kick to the body anymore, but he did throw some side kicks. I think his trainer is limiting the exciting fighter in him, in favor of winning fights with minimal risk.. This, is the sort of final destination of very refined, skilled fighters if they decide winning is the ultimate end. Having a takedown, and controlling wrestling skills at his level just sort of leads to this.. Whats scary is.. With St. Pierre's wrestling skill, he could basically control a fight without ever really doing anything other than feints, takedowns, and gnp without trying to improve position.... Wrestling, can be very boring, but until fights are scored differently, or knees are allowed from a stuffed takedown attempt position, things arent going to change much.. IMO, the sub attempts were great. I'd bet Hardy's shoulder and elbow are ****ed right now.
Don't worry he'll put on a show next time, u seen that he was very mad with himself and apologized. He doesn't wanna let his fans down. So next fight will be good
Thats spot on :good I agree with everything you have said , and yes i know the attempted submissions is seen as good as a knock out punch for the pureists in terms of excitement , but i used to like seeing GSP on his toes , mixing up his strikes and picking peopke apart on the feet . I wanted to get in that cage and ****in strangle Greg Jackson when he was telling him not to pass , GTFOH Jackson you twat !!!!!!!!!!!
GSP will do a fight standing up when the guys in front of him strength' will be is work on the ground. GSP is good in every aspect of the game so he can just choose and pick a strategy corresponding to the weakest aspect of his opponent.
The difference between GSP and Penn/Silva/Fedor is what Hardy's face looked like after GSP dominated him for 5 rounds. Penn finishes and inflicts damage, GSP neutralizes, controls and wins decisions. Hell, even against Penn when he had like 20 lbs of muscle on the guy and dominant position for the entire fight, he still couldn't finish him, the corner stopped it between rounds.
I thought it was the most exciting fight of the night. For the simple fact that he has amazing athleticism. And Dan Hardy has an amazing heart.
I agree with the guy who said he is just to damn good at takedowns and if your opponant is a stand-up striker, why NOT take him down. I also agree with the thread starter though. I was bored as hell.
You can't blame the guy for fighting smart and taking away any chance for Hardy to win. However, I do think that GSP should have been much more active on top. It isn't as if Hardy was going to sub him from his back or anything.
I don't think it is anything to do with being dominant and a lopsided fight being boring. Silva is not boring and nor is Fedor. You cannot criticise GSP because he is doing what he needs to do to secure victory and he is utterly dominant in doing that. But yeah it is a bit dull to watch. That said he went for a sub and 99% of fighters would have tapped to either the armbar or the kimura. But I would much rather watch a one sided fight like Silva-Franklin than a one sided GSP fight.
I agree I know he wants to fight smart but we pay his salary he should be also atleast trying to entertain us alittle.
GSP is not boring but yeah I agree, I wasnt impressed with his ground game.. Not enough strike landed on the ground for my taste...He is just so damn good with his wrestling, its crazy
