The ignorance on this board is astounding, grouping together the whole of Europe like we're all chummy is ridiculous.

For the most part we actually dislike each other, political correctness has gone into overdrive here in the UK but when it comes to trash talking the French and Germans it's open season.

Yes, but they would only be faking the coma.

As many other have said delayed reaction. He got hit, instincts of a boxer are to raise the guard, fighter loses consciousness. I have seen this happen to numerous fighters, can't see why anyone would question it. That was a hard flush power shot from a big puncher.

The thing that makes me question the legitimacy of it is that the report over at the scene said Dirrell went to the hospital "to rule out a possible concussion".

I would've thought he had a concussion judging by what happened and how he was acting.

Hard to say for sure. There should be an option for both. I think he was hurt, and acted a bit.

there is no definitive way to detect a concussion. you understand that, right? They were checking for severe neural trauma, detectable by MRI. Boxers suffer hundreds of small concussions over their careers, and only the accumulation of these events might be detectable.

I personally feel that AA was gonna knock him out in those last two rounds. At first I thought he acted it because fighters frequently get hit 1 more time on the canvas. What if Margarito had AA type of power and he hit Cotto like he did in one of those final rounds Cotto woulda been ktfo right there while he was on the ground. But Marg can't hit like AA and so it was completely ignored lol. I think Dirrell was clearly hurt because AA hits like a beast but in all honesty I think AA hit him harder throughout the course of the fight than he hit him in that punch. Although Dirrell didn't expect to get hit there. I think that Dirrell is a drama queen, and he stretched all that **** out just like Cintron did when he fought that big headed feliciano guy and acted like he broke every bone in his body at the end of the fight. Whatever, it is what it is. The fight ended on a DQ simply because AA hit him hard as **** on the ground. whatever i dont know anymore. AA still hits like a beast

at the end of the day, AA probably ruined Andre Dirrell and made him damaged goods with just this 1 fight. And AA is probably more feared by the other competitors in the tournament because of this outcome. AA kinda still takes some victory home with him after this fight.

I'm sort of confused regarding boxing and "concussions". I had read that anytime you are knocked out, it is technically considered a "concussion".

Dirrell was out of it longer than many guys who suffer KO defeats, so I don't understand why this wouldn't be considered a concussion.

It almost certainly did cause a concussion. That's the answer.

Clearly AA hit Dirrell well after he had slipped to his knees. There was a pause by AA,then a punch to the head.Punk move by AA.

I thought the same......at first I was saying Dirrell was acting, but yea.....Abraham has got some dynamite in his fists and that was very flush with a lot of leverage. He was legitimately hurt.

Not only do you have 'delayed reaction' but Dirrell was probably fighting to retain consciousness. Bottom line, he was rocked and was in no position to continue the fight that night. Just being conscious doesn't mean you can continue. His world was rocked.
