I knew all along that Dirrell was the best athlete out of the bunch and had the most potential, but I thought his heart was questionable. I don't know if it was just the hometown crowd, but the man didn't run this time, he showed amazing ring generalship, and was basically schooling Abraham and even hurting him in some portions of the fight. The guy defenitely made me a fan, and after that performance, I would pick him to beat Ward as well and be in a good position to win the entire tournament. That was until COWARDLY Abraham sucker punched him because he was way behind on the cards and he knew that a loss was just about inevitable. Now it's hard to tell what's going to happen because like Tarver said, "those are the types of shots fighers don't come back from." Either way, I just want to give Dirrell a lot of respect. The man fought like a damn warrior.
Most people already knew that Dirrell was the best athlete of the bunch. It's just that people grew tired of his performances when he fought scared and did just enough to win. It's obvious that he learned from the loss against Froch, and was determined never to let something like that happen again. And I don't know if was just the hometown crowd that made him fight like that, but not only was he putting on a boxing lesson, he was hurting Abraham with his punches. And if the guy we saw against Abraham was the guy we see against Ward, I think Dirrell has the tools to be Ward. Abraham should be in MMA. In the MMA world what's disgraceful and cowardly in boxing makes Joe Rogan highlight videos in UFC.
There was NO KO coming. Dirrell was taking everything Abraham had to offer and he wasn't budging. What gives you the impression a KO was coming? To be honest, the only KO I saw coming was one against Abraham who was leaving himself wide open as he was lunging in like an amateur.
I suppose this is what happens when u build a name for yourself off of nobodies and Pavlik scraps. AA was so overrated. Dirrell put him in a bad place and AA responded by cheatin. Pavlik would knock AA out.
I think AA is good, but he is what he is. He's a slugger with a solid defense. He is a guy that can be outboxed, but he's good enough that it takes an incredibly discplined fighter to do so. And I thought it was clear that Dirrell showed the discipline to execute his gameplan perfectly, and the durability to take what Abrhama was dishing out on the relatively few occasions he hit Dirrell.
I tend to agree with most of that. But, it was Ward complete outclassing and imposing of his will on Kessler that impressed most people.
Seeing it in person, Dirrell dominated the early rounds but AA was coming on like a bull late. If he doesn't get DQ'ed, he had a great shot at the KO.
I don't know. Dirrell was more focused on making him miss than countering, but he was making him miss. But, like the prevent defense in football.......
