Miadana has probably established himself as a mainstay on HBO. Being just a supposedly gift wrapped offering to Ortiz, he has established himself as one of the elite and will have most of his fights televised from here on out.

Impressive story, and shows what hard work and seizing the moment can get a fighter.

Oh and the fact he has real KO power aswell. He was ripping cayo with some brutal shots.

It's Maidana...IMO he's all power, very minimal skill. He can get outboxed by a majority of the elite fighters at 140. Cayo went with his hands low, and Ortiz showed his lack of experience when he went toe to toe with Maidana, even though he had some success in the beginning of the fight.

With that said, I can't deny it, Maidana makes for some exciting fights.

If he can put some asses in the seats in the US where he's now fighting and his health will hold up, he could be a regular on Boxing After Dark, he has that Gattiesque heart. And he's actually a lot more awkward than simply raw, does a fairly good job picking up punches and you could be a De La Hoya (Ortiz) or Roy Jones (Cayo) imitator, if he hits you, you go down, and in pain. Even if you have the skills to box his ears off, you need a granite chin, and unfortunately for the rest of the 140, you need a granite body, because Chino's becoming one of the most feared body KO artists is the sport.

    What an absolute beauty!

The most chilling is how he slowly walks to the neutral corner when the other dude is in PAIN! Dude is cold!

the storyline somewhat parallels that of Humberto Soto, who established himself as a legit top tier guy after pulling the upset over an olympian prospect (Rocky Juarez).

Maidana's power will separate him from the bunch, though. At the end of the day, KO's put asses in the seats and sell PPV's. WIth Manny's career winding down, Maidana could very well be the "next big thing" if he can continue his success against top echelon competition (a tall order).

Expect Amir Khan to move up in weight if Maidana's rampage continues.

Agreed....he very well could be the next big thing....What he will need is a massive KO of a heavy favorite in the betting odds.....Most likely Bradley or Alexander...If he KO's Khan people will say so what, because of Khan's chin......

Balls of steel and fists of iron have gotten him far. He's none too polished but what he's got could get him a victory over men that are much much better technically. I mean, really, both Ortiz and Cayo are vastly better technically but it didn't matter.

Nah, I had Kotelnik winning for example, it was close, either way type of fight and many had the champ ahead. Also, they were both foreigners in Germany under the same promoter, no reason to favor one over another, and it was a split call which is fair. Kotelnik has very solid skills (got robbed twice vs. M'Baye and had a very even fight vs. Witter) and his chin helped him getting through tough moments. He simply landed the cleaner blows but I can accept the Chico cards based on activity.

If Maidana keeps this up and learn how to box better. He could be 140's GOAT (if hes not already).

definately an impressive win on Saturday. I was predictitng a win already but Cayo actually showed some good skills. Incredibly stupid going toe to toe with Maidana.

I dont think anyone can beat Maidana toe to toe. However i can see him getting TKOd by Alexander and possibly Bradley.

On topic, I think Maidana's rise is great, especially because it proves that a guy who isn't given a chance and is meant to just be fed to a rising star can shock the world and do something with his opportunity.

Maidana is rather crude and telegraphs himself slightly, but he's got really solid power, he can be tricky in his awkward style, and he has a good killer instinct when he senses he has someone in trouble. Watching him should be interesting, especially with 140 being so star studded right now.
