Did Hatton's hug get him by when he moved into world class? i think so.

On the Mayweather fight......sure Cortez may have been on Hatton's case but whether Hatton was treated unfairly or not his inability to get around that and adapt is why he lost, you see sometimes in a fight the ref is against you and whether that is right or wrong the fact is it happens to fighters from time to time, that said great & good fighters adapt to the situation and still win regardless, all Cortez proved was how one dimensional Hatton actually was as a fighter, if he cant hit and hold and smoother he has nothing else.

Essentially they took away Hatton's ability to hug and illegal tactics (Tszyu) and he lost, that is what got him by when he moved into World Class and he still got shook up by Collazo and looked trash against Urango.

I dont think Hatton would of beaten Tszyu with a proper referee who enforced the rules properly. Tszyu was a strictly long range fighter who could not fight inside and a guy who's power was on the end of his punches where he got the extension, Hatton took that power away by staying on his chest to avoid getting nailed, however the way he got into that position is my point, he was afforded the benefit of the doubt by (incompetent referee) pushing Tszyu or when on the inside being able to stop Tszyu getting back at long range by holding and hitting him. Tszyu would of picked Hatton apart from long range and a proper ref would of allowed this to play out because Hatton cant throw one punch fall in and hold all night long.

    Excellent post

I agree with you as well, Hatton could actually box as seen from his earlier fights, but when he finally stepped up to World class level he did start to hit and hold. I think it was Kosta's right hand that he was worried about, so he nulified it by constantly holding Kosta's right hand. Which of course is illegal, but the Hometown Ref allowed him to get away with it. So the Kosta fight was a pyrrhic victory at best because he got a great win but he no longer boxed after that. I agree with Cortez's decision in the Mayweather fight, as well.

    Terrible post !!!!!!!!!

At world level you do not win fights by " hugging " as you put it , i dont think there is any doubt Ricky was world class , but yes he was one dimentional , and he fought one paced and had no plan B if plan A went to rat **** , which was have it all Ricky's own way .

That said that one dimension of Hattons was pretty tough for a few world class fighters to feel the heat , Hatton like it or lump was great at applying pressure , it didnt look pretty but you ask any of his opponents , Tszyu , Maussa , Collazo , Urango , Castillo , Malignaggi etc do they think they were cheated they will all reply with no , and they will say i underestimated the brawler's ability to apply real pressure and box when he needs to . Thats Hatton in a nut shell , he's the type of fighter as a world class boxer you would fancy yourself to beat easily every time , but when faced in the ring with his freakish upper body strength and constant forward movement closing the space and vicious body attacks its a completley different story .

Prime example look at Malignaggi's face in between rounds in there fight , it has the look of " how the **** is this fighting panning out like this " pure dejection , thats what Hatton done to opponents .

Paulie? they put him in with a guy who was tailor made for his style, a guy that cant punch for ****, a guy who's only repellent to pressure is a jab, he was never going to have enough to keep Hatton off him.

Would love to know what percentage of the people who comment on Hatton v Urango actually watched the fight...

Completely different fighters, Cotto is a guy that closes distance slowly and allows you to get off first and move after throwing, Diaz 1 was a very close fight that could of gone either way, i thought Diaz won that fight, second fight Sheilds tried to turn him into a Boxer and he got schooled.

Hugging or clinching isn't really bad, that's like saying Mayweather running around the ring is bad. Although, I agree with the illegal part. Hatton likes to rabbit punch his opponents when he clinches. He probably wouldn't have KOd Tsyzu without those rabbit punches but as you said Hatton took Tsyzu's power away. Staying on his opponent's chest is his style. An in-fighter.

I tend to agree. But I think its a case of a guy doing what he had to do to win. Until the refs stop you, why not do it? It sucked and it was brutal to watch, but it was effective for a time. As for the Mayweather fight, Cortez was doing what he should have been doing.

It's quite possible that he was already on the slide by the time he fought Tszyu.

His next three performances weren't great (progressively worse actually) before running into a badly faded Castillo.

He was decent against Mayweather, probably because he wasn't struggling at the weight at 147.... then awful against Lazcano, improved against Paulie before being blown away by Pacquiao - having looked like a corpse on the scales.

Very true but in that fight no one expected Mayweather to use Hattonish tactics and get clean away with it. Not taking anything from Floyd's win, just saying it was remarkable how Mayweather would clinch and the ref would seperate them and say, "Ricky, no clinching." You're right though, Ricky should have been able to deal with it.
