met Paddy snr said they are running this night to raise funds for the local boxing club and the local kids school the rest of the lads are raising funds for other charity,s. He said his fight against Terry Kenny is a grudge match thats being going on for years and will be a hard fight. Kenny is a former boxer and coach of Dunboyne BC he,s also a fitness instructor and the guy Pete Taylor is fighting is also a fitness instructor and kickboxing champion so both Paddy and Pete are in for a hard night have to admit they,ve got balls. Its expected to be a sell out come on the boy,s:happy
Anymore word on the Andy Lee fight in Limerick guys? It's all gone quite since the last rte show. The Tommy Egan show fell through (again!) and I heard that the Phil Sutcliffe one that was talked about is unlikely to happen now either. I know there are a few planned for Belfast with Alio Wiltons show and title defences for Lindsay and McCloskey but things are very quiet in the south.
Got my tickets this evening for this...... Cant wait now only 5 weeks away...... Should be a cracking night of boxing
Have to say the Barney Eastwood book 'Hooked on the jab' is a complete let-down. It is a cold, bitter account of the McGuigan years. Too much time is spent talking about how Eastwood spent a fortune on McGuigan's sparring partners etc - I have lost count how many times that is reiterated. Incredibly, only half a page is given to tragic death of Young Ali - and totally glossed over the deep effect this had on McGuigan. And some of the cheap shots about McGuigan are just bitter. Terrible write up as well - 60 odd chapters that are disjointed, cluttered with soundbites and absent of good engaging story telling.
I have to say when i watched it live i thought he was faking but when i saw it again..... he fell backwards onto the ropes then slid to the side I will put it this way he slipped and got hit it doesnt make a difference what he did after that he could have got straight up and been right as rain it was still a DQ in fairness it would kind of be embarassing to be there twitching on the ground like roy jones! lets not forget abraham is a big puncher and got a free shot on dirrell who people had question marks about his chin before he fought froch
The delayed reaction makes me think he's faking. Anyone remember the vicious assualt on Dida by a Celtic fan that left him needing a stretcher and an icepack?
Joe "the Irish bomber"smith... Joe Smith The Irish Bomber Goes Pro!!! #fullpost{display:inline;} This content is protected By: Coach K Long Islands Joe The Irish Bomber Smith an accomplished amateur boxer with New York Metro and Gold Gloves Championships among his accolades will be making his long awaited pro debut next week. Smith a 6 foot 178lber pugilist who punched his way through the amateurs early on turning boxer as his body filled out winning numerous tournaments. Smith, 20 years old is a handsome, sculptured Irishman who wears a smile like a shining shamrock. The Irish Bomber got his moniker way back when he began his boxing career at Long Islands Atlantic Boxing Gym in Shirley, New York where his natural boxing skills and punching power was obvious early on. The Irish Bomber will make his pro debut on Halloween Oct. 31st on Jimmy Burchfields Classic Entertainment and Sports, Incs. Fright Night at the Sun card at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conneticut as Smith will be fighting on the undercard of world-rated light heavyweight Joey KO Kid Spina versus former world champion Lou Honey Boy Del Valle 10 round main event. Team Smith is managed by Phil Capobianco and trained by his brother Gerry. The Capobianco brothers both former fighters come from a boxing family as their father John was an accomplished light heavyweight fighting from 1973-1982 and should give Smith a solid base. The managerial guidance and training from brothers Capobianco together with Smiths raw two handed punching power and developing boxing skills has had him compared to the likes of Kelly Pavlik and Mike Rossman. Having had the pleasure to watch his career advance I can guarantee he has what its takes and a must see. He will give the Irish boxing loyal something to be proud of and surely give John Duddy a run for his 'airgead'. i think dirrel was fakin just because of the delayed reaction but im convinced if he got back up abraham wouldve destroyed him in the 12th
In the rules yes Paddy but that ref was a complete twat he started a count for some reason then when he realised Dirrell was ****ed he ruled it a slip and a punch to a downed opponent. Hopefully thats the last we see of this ref the few times i saw him he can't tell a slip from a punch.
Thanks Mike, although it's early days, this kid seems to to have a bit of power. I will follow his career closely in future. Here's his record for anyone interested. http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=513839&cat=boxer THE EASTWOOD STORY http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/march10/mar10_eastwood_book.html ACTION IN MAY http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/march10/mar10_may_action.html LINDSAY SIGNS WITH MALONEY http://www.irish-boxing.com/stories/march10/mar10_lindsay_maloney.html
