Mayweather beating Pavlik is more realistic than "Pac would beat Ali"

dumb thread maywether different class of boxer but at same time could barley hold of a lw 135 pound presure fighter let alone a160 pound mw with devastat5ing power ther is no way at 160 floyd has same foot speed another 13 plus pounds just isnt logical match up

Exactly. Mayweather wouldn't need to really bulk up, because he would need to keep his speed. Look how fast he was against De La Hoya, a fast fighter himself, and that difference in speed was crucial. Against Pavlik, it would be too.

If Pavlik could fight on the inside, I'd pick him, but he can't. Everything he does comes from the long jab, but that would miss all night and when he does start missing with it, what is his answer going to be? He isn't going to get in close, like Hagler would, and break Mayweather down. He can't stay outside and outwork him, like Monzon would. He can't outhink him like Hopkins would.

Pavlik is a perfect fighter for Mayweather.

I don't think Mayweather would need to be any bigger than he was against Oscar.

And yeah, at 135lbs it was tough, but just because they are bigger, it doesn't mean that the middleweights would be harder to keep off. Pavlik doesn't even fight that way. Look at how Roberto Duran did against Iran Barkley - There are precedents for this, if the styles mix well. Mayweather's style is horrendous for Pavlik.

as champ, pavlik could dictate some terms of the contract...such as ring size. get a small ring. mayweather can try and spoil all he wants. the moment compubox registers its first power shot landed for kelly, it will be game over.

this really isnt fair to mayweather, b/c he will look good but will end up tits up when its all said and done. 6'2" and 170-175lb banger who can take a shot? unless mayweather learns how to hit like miranda its not even fair.

ffs ricky freaking hatton of the "ive never looked that great above lww fame" gave mayweather some trouble for a couple rounds there just bulling forward trying to turn it into a brawl. kelly would run him over.

Okay where to begin, first I wouldn't be shocked if Floyd won the fight, hell I would be dead even going into fight night on whom I would pick. But to say Floyd would win every round and school Pavlik is absurd. Floyd doesn't have the power to make Pavlik respect him so Pavlik would be willing to sell out to get his own shots in. But Floyd does have excellent boxing ability and Pavlik has had trouble with boxers.

If Mayweather thought for one minute he could beat Pavlik, he would be talking about it. He isn't, and never has.

I doubt this fight will ever happen, but if it does, Kelly gets taken to school again. "Money" is too quick and too skilled.

Come to think of it, Pavlik isn't going to have any belts come April 17 so the point is moot.

Mayweather is a sharp enough puncher to get Pavlik's attention, even if he can't hurt him. He managed to slightly hurt De La Hoya, so he did have some power at 154lbs, but it's the speed which would get to Pavlik and make him feel the punches.

glad you mentioned oscar. oscar was beating floyd when he was jabbing. and oscar doesn't have the reach pavlik does. in this case i think pavlik's 'weakness' of jabbing too much would give him at least a split d victory.
i don't know why you give floyd so much credit for his infighting. in recent years he has mostly used straight punches and counters from range. i think floyd using an infighting/pressure tactic against pavlik is even more unlikely than floyd taking the fight in the first place
