Just want to pose a legit medical question. If Abraham's chin / jaw had to be surgically re-enforced with "titanium plates and screws" does this not afford him an unfair advantage. The surgeons used this method based on his occupation (contact sport). His chin / jaw structure was re-enforced to withstand repetitive significant blunt force traumas. This would appear to be an advantage not afforded his fellow competitors. Everyone knows that "chin /jaw" is the switch to the Central Nervous System. Hit the switch, and the lights go out. Damage the switch and the lights will start to flicker until they go out. This is not the same as a repaired retina detatchment (they're never as strong). Most other surgeries (ACL etc...) don't enhance onces ability to take a vital punch, this one does. Just a thought...:bbb

I don't know much about the medical after he broke his jaw. But, even before he was tough as nails and had a good chin. I mean you don't survive against Edison Miranda with a broken jaw and win unless you had a good chin to begin with. I don't know the medical significance of this, but I would assume it makes very little difference. Abraham would be a monster regardless.

I would have to say if it helps, not significantly. Because when you say chin and jaw, it doesn't literally pertain to that specific area's strength. It's punch resistance. When you get hit, the real damage as far as being knocked out, wobbled, etc, doesn't come from the damage to the chin and jaw, but from the brain bashing up against the skull, is my understanding. So, if any, not much. As far as I know. But i have thought about that too.

I'm sure he would rather he didn't have titanium in his face. That was a horrible injury and he is brave to come back after that. It's not an advantage at all.

What unfair advantage??? Everyone is allowed to have their jaw broken and reconstructed using metal plates

Do you know how ****ed up his jaw must have been if it had to get metal plates in it???

I doubt anyone would want to go through that

To be fair, I don't think this guy intended to imply that AA purposefully got his jaw broken so he could have it reconstructed with metal. He's only asking if it changes anything now that it's been done.

...I don't suspect anything planned or sinister in the least and I just said I didn't think he did either. So...why are you going on about it like that?

There are different types of KO's. You're referring to the "concussive" type, were the brain collides with the skull. I'm referring the the "CNS" type, where the body's electrical system is short circuited. Those are caused by torque, where the chin / jaw is hit causing the head to rotate violently snapping in the opposite direction of the brain stem. These types of knockouts take out the legs resulting in "comedic" youtube videos etc... If "titanium" didn't make it MUCH stronger, they'd use other materials to rebuild the structure for cosmetic purposes only...:bbb
