Two questions on Brock and Shane. - Who is physically stronger do you think? - Who is the better wrestler?
Lesnar for both, but theres not that much in it. Lesnar is much more explosive though. Carwin punches much harder.
Honestly, its not that close. Lesnar is far superior. In MMA terms it doesn't matter so much usually, but when they match up it will. tbh I'm still not convinced Carwin is a truly elite level fighter (even though I've been a fan for a long time); I think if he fights GG again he'll lose. He just seems to have freakish power and his gnp is Mark Kerr scary. Noone really knows about his stamina...if he can make Lesnar fight for a rd or 2 he may tire him out like it looked like Couture was. I think Cain is actually better than both of them fundamentally, just a little undersized at 240lbs(!) compared to these behemoths.
Lesnar in top form is both stronger and a better wrestler. Carwin would be hard pressed to beat Brock.
I'm not so sure about the strength aspect. Carwin was manhandling a 265lbs Mir. Lesnar only fought a 245lbs Mir, and Lesnar wasn't able to swat Couture off like a fly. I think they may be pretty evenly matched strength-wise.
Agree with you there. And how crazy is it when a bloke that weighs 240(Velasquez)is considered undersized..
Lesnar is bigger, stronger, faster, and the all-around better athlete. But damn, Shane Carwin can punch, and hey, sometimes that's all it takes.
Lesnar is bigger and much more coordinated and athletic. However, for pure strength and such, Carwin might match up with him pretty well. They did this panel test for the " genetic markers" of athletic ability among a bunch of famous athletes and Carwin tested something like third from the top. Now, that doesn't mean much really, but as far as having played football and wrestling and having picked up MMA quickly, Carwin is no slouch. I've also tried to get the "experts" on such things to fill me in on the difference between levels of NCAA champs from different divisions. The question is, on average, where would a DII champ place in DI? What about a DIII champ? Are we talking top ten? Top one hundred? Lower? I first asked this question with regard to Hamil who was a DIII champ but seems to be able to out muscle and out wrestle all sorts of former DI champs in MMA. That's another point; even if it's clear that Lesnar was a better college wrestler than Carwin (and considering his record and how dominant he was, I doubt Lesnar would have been one of the few that would have lost to even an especially dominant DII champ) that doesn't mean much in MMA. There have been all sorts of top of the food chain college wrestlers who can't make in in MMA and then there are guys like GSP who learn wrestling for MMA and become totally dominant with it.
The biggest difference I see is Lesnar's speed and explosiveness. I really don't think Lesnar looks any stronger from what I've seen. Lesnar's speed makes him a threat to knock out Carwin from the outside, but I won't be surprised if Carwin ko's Lesnar if he tags him. I'm really exited about this fight, and am close to picking Carwin for the win. I realize Carwin has not shown whether or not his cardio is up for 5 rounds, but I believe he definitely finishes inside the distance Lesnar if the fight makes it to the 3rd round. I thought Lesnar was fading against Couture. Lesnar is big, and has tons of fast twitch muscle fibers. That is not really curse, but it's not always promising in terms of endurance either.
I agree with you on all points regarding Cain Poly mate, but for my part I am absolutely convinced that Carwin is an elite level MMA fighter, and if the demolition of Mir doesn't convince you, I guess if he beats Brock he makes a "Believer" of you then. Lesnar is in all probability the superior wrestler (I don't know about far superior, but you could be right I suppose) but imo Brock loses an mma fight with Shane. One thing is for sure: I have never looked forward to an MMA fight as much as this one!!
