Better Legacy: De La Hoya or Mayweather?

GOAT is an understatement.

He'd have to be the greatest boxer of all the boxers, when clearly not even 1 other boxer is comparable.

 

DLH was considered the top P4P fighter for what, 6 months at one point? They were active together for many, many years.

 

What about Vargas, Qaurtay, Gonzalez, Leija, Paez, Molina?

Clearly a bias Mayweather fanboy

 

He has Gatti on both lists

 

At this time id still have to say De La Hoya.
Both great fighters and I might not be thinking the same thing when Maywheathers career ends, but at this time still De La Hoya

 

It's DLH by far, and Mayweather himself would probably tell you DLH is a fool for even caring about his legacy and taking the fights he did. PBF hasn't fought any real competition since Diego Corrales.

PBF's list of opposition is incredibly weak in comparison to De La Hoya's. I mean, there really is no comparison.

However, Mayweather hasn't lost and he was the #1 PFP best fighter for longer period than DLH.

BUT if he gets knocked out by Mosley which is unlikely, it will be hard to put him ahead of De La Hoya.

 

I like Floyd but I have to go no bias on here and say Oscar. He just has the better wins and say what you want about him but he fought everyone. Floyd's relationship with Bob Arum has hindered him from making more legacy wins(assuming he would've beaten Margarito, Clottey, Cotto). The time that I remembered he tried the fight fell through but as of now DLH. Even if he beats Shane twice that can't amount to fighting a prime Shane.

 

Mayweather. There is a reason why he's rated higher then DLH on the ATG lists.

Oscar's best wins are arguably Ike Quartey and Fernando Vargas.

He lost to Tito, Mosley X2 and Hopkins.


Did Oscar face better fighters then Mayweather? Yes. Did he beat better fighters? No.


Floyd was smaller, but more highly skilled. Floyd is rated as perhaps the best 130lber of all-time. Oscar never established himself as the best in any weight class he was in.

 

I have to go with Oscar , both started pro at the same weight , floyd is the more skillfull fighter , but has not seen the same level of competition , for me the only name missing from Oscars list is Winky Wright , where as floyd has someone missing from almost every division he has fought in , and considering floyd keeps on saying that he is his own boss then there is no one else to blame .

I like both fighters and say it's close, but...

DLH Won Against: Chavez, Quartey, Vargas, Gatti, Leija, Hernandez, Camacho, Whitaker, Molina, Paez, Carr, Mayorga

Floyd Won Against: Hernandez, Corrales, Marquez, Hoya, Judah, Hatton, Gatti, Castillo, Manfredy, Baldomir

Those who say Delahoya lost "all" of his big fights clearly do not remember, or were to young during, his early career. He won and lost a lot of big fights. Mayweather won big fights too, but as of now, Delahoya is just slightly over Floyd (Delahoya consistently took on tougher opposition). I do believe Floyd will pass Delahoya before he retires though.
