Did Mayweather really dominate Ricky Hatton..?

In terms of clean effective punching mayweather was the clear winner

 

And in terms of who finished the fight on their feet!

 

Floyd potshots and only opens up if safe. Floyd opened up more in the lower weights.

Hatton had the footwork to stay with Floyd but technically he is horrible. His body work is inconsistent. He never jabs enough. The KO is Hatton in a nutshell - wild, over eager and technically atrocious.

i have been saying this ever since the night of the fight... ricky was doing well up until round 6... WHEN HE HAD THE POINT TAKEN OFF AND GRAHAM TOLD HIM HE WAS BEHIND ON THE SCORECARDS. After billy graham said this, hattons gameplan went out the window and floyd grew in confidence and it was practically one way from then on.

Having said that, although hatton was doing well in the first half, i still think floyd had him under control and actually landed more shots and the better quality shots too. Truth is, although ricky was forcing floyd into what i think is a career defining performance, it was a hard fight to score because each round, floyd would land about 7-8 shots and ricky would land about 5-6. it was a masterful performance by floyd, whos tactics where perfect. mayweather could have got ricky out of their whenever he wanted every time he put more than 3 punches together ricky looked in trouble! he beat hatton at his own game,on the inside!

 

Hatton had his moments getting close but wasn't remotely effective except for when he caught Mayweather off balance once. What he was effective in doing was catching up to Mayweather, he just wasn't good enough to be effective when he did.

That alone is reason to think Mayweather may just have a lot of trouble with Manny Pacquiao. When Pacquiao gets to him he'll likely do more damage. He's a more accurate puncher, a faster puncher, and finds cuter angles to get his punches home.

 

Mayweather did half the job before the fight. He got into Ricky's head which resulted in Ricky neglecting going to the body (i.e the thing he is best at) and just head hunting. He (and Roger) then made sure they got the point across to Cortez about Ricky 'rough-housing' on the inside just before the fight, which then resulted in Ricky not being able to do his 'thing' when on the inside. Not to say that I don't think Mayweather would have won the fight if he hadn't of done any of those things.

It was competitive enough in the early stages, but Mayweather took over and outclassed Hatton after the 5th round. Not dominant overall though IMO.

Marquez gave pacquiao fits with his counter punching once he had him figured out, Floyd should have little trouble pot shotting on pacquiao especially his lead right on his southpaw stance.

 

Technically he dominated him...

 

Joe Cortez was a knob but yes mayweather domintd him easily. Anytime hatton thought he was doing well, floyd would let him get into a rythm of certain punches, so he knew what was coming and could plan ahead, knowing ricky is a creature of habit. Masterclass.

Any bollocks about it "being close til the second half " is balls, floyd knew he would get loads of chances and ricky would play into his hands. Outclassed. Simples

 

The crowd and also Hatton's constant attacking made him look like he was in the fight but when you watch from a clinical point of view. Floyd rarely threw any arm shots. Mostly it was pin point hard sharp shots that knocked Hatton's head back.

Floyd was playing for points but when Hatton went all out after the points deduction he laid him trap after trap and Hatton fell for each one and Floyd turned up the pressure and eventually stopped him. Floyd was always in control of the fight, Okay at times he look pressured but he dominated in the pocket and at range. Hatton had a few moments of success but rarely did he have a major say in the rounds.

 

I thought floyd dominated from round 5 onwards up until then hatton was doing ok. But floyd just went up another gear.
