Ok Jet here goes Favourite food . Thai Favourite movie. The Wedding Crashes Favourite music. R and B What pisses me off. People who stop at round abouts when theres no cars in sight. Last book read. Reading Joe Calzaghe at the moment hardest puncher. Celso Esmero Person I most respect. My wife Windi. Jen or Salma. Salma Britt or Liza. Britt.
Good stuff. I see Calzaghe recently admitted or was busted (one of the two) snorting coke in retirement. Good to see Joe is keeping the weight off
Jeff can you tell us about your memories of your win over Bobby Joe Young on the Dokes-Coetzee card? Young had a huge reputation as a puncher and would later stop the great Aaron Pryor so he's a fair scalp to have.
Yes it was a very big night for me. I was contracted to Don King who had just about every 140lb fighter in the division. Bobby Joe had just knocked out Kronk boxer Darrel Chambers on tv and was keen to have Don promote him. Dons son Carl who was my manager came to the training camp and asked would I fight him. I told him what he wanted to hear. Bobby Joe was a big puncher but my defence was spot on. He hardly touched me all night and I scored a knock down on the way. After the fight both Don and Carl wanted me to stay but I decided to come home. I thought I was going to be young forever.
A training question Jeff..... How long would you like to have choc for before a big fight....do you go into camp 8 weeks out? It would be interesting to see a bit of a breakdown on what you go throught in the camp - without giving too much away :good
I don't like music in the gym. What about these guys that have their ipods on. You can't give em instructions.
Choc keeps fit all the time. All the Mundines have always been fanatical trainers. He leaves for America this weekend and I know he will train most of the time hes there. My job is mainly the technical side of his preparation so I will come in probably 6 or 7 weeks before he fights. Last fight he moved into one of his houses to get away. We stayed there until the fight. Going into camp is always enjoyable. His groin worries me because coming back to soon could cause permanent damage. I preach that to him all the time so I hope he takes it in.
How come you are not going to America Jeffrey? Also who was the last Aussie before you to post a century?
I am not going as I am a personal trainer here and I not only lose money by leaving the country for a month I lose clients. The last aussie to win 100 fights before me is a good question. I have no idea who it is.
Dave sands came close as did Ron Richards and Billy Grime...only 3 or 4 fights off the 100 win mark. The only guy with more than 100 pro wins that I know of is Mick Miller in the 30's
Ash, I have never thought of anyone else reaching 100 wins. Maybe Flamengo or yourself can check up and see who was the last aussie before me. Its made me curious.
Give me 2 years and 100 argentinian cab drivers and I'll be there (BTW im not saying that you fought that kind of opposition btw. Just suggesting thats what I would need )
These guys came close...... Dave Sands 97 wins 1941 to 1953 Ron Richards 95 wins 1928 to 1945 Billy Grime 95 wins 1920 to 1934 Alan Westbury 99 wins 1935 to 1945 However Mick is the only guy I can find that made 100 wins along with you :good Mick Miller 106 wins 1930's to 1950's Maybe FLAMER can find a few more
Flash, Not sure if you've been asked this one here or not, but has Anthony given up running in those bloody work boots yet mate? If not, FFS hit some sponsor up for a pair of runners for him!
You mentioned earlier you are a Muslim. How long have you been - were you introduced to the religion by Choc?
