Yeah fair point, when fully trained his stamina was pretty good...although am I wrong in thinking his punch out-put did slow down towards the latter rounds and he seemed to tire? Over 20 rounds I think it could be a bit tougher than some people suggest. Don't get me wrong, I don't necessarily think Jeffries wins this one, but it certainly wouldn't be an easy win for Tyson as some people are suggesting.
Jeffries loses to Roy Rogers ,and Roy Orbison , but he has an outside chance with Jones. imo:yep Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Jeffries acquitted himself very well here, if he could weather the early going, he might begin to get in a groove, Tyson's power and fast hand speed are formidable obstacles to overcome however.
Because he fought under a different time, a time in which he relied on wrestling and overpowering his opponents in the clinch. Under modern rules Jones could probably out-box him. It's not like Jeffries wasn't fighting guys smaller than Jones anyway. The Poll I had here was like 55-45 for Jones Jr anyway. Tyson vs Jim Jeffries is just silly. Agreed?
I've seen all of Tysons fights, I think. I've never seen Jeffries fight, but I know he went unbeaten until an ill-advised comeback. Therefore it would be stupid for me to guess a winner. I'm not qualified to do so. I'll let those of you who have the Jeffries collection on tape give an analysis.
Jeffries would walk though Jones and finish him with the first solid shot he landed. Jones would not snake charm him into not advancing. I don't think Jeffries vs. Tyson is silly. Those who stood up to Tyson and survived the early rounds with the will to fight back beat him.
Jones would get poleaxed by Jeffries. Not to mention Roy also has a massive, massive advantage fighting under his own rule-set.
Jones may well be the biggest puncher Jeffries faced, certainly a bigger puncher than an ancient Corbett who kept him at bay for 23rounds. Hes also a far superior boxer to anyone Jeffries faced, and Jeffries was often being outboxed by these lesser talents
I would guess that they both either had more one punch power or better delivery. Add Ruhlin, Goddard, Jackson, Armstrong and Sharkey and you have a fighter who is well tested against punchers. Especialy given that he was a raw novice against some of them.
I reckon Fitzsimmons hit harder than RJJ. Didn't some of his opponents insist he wear the 8,10, 12 oz gloves and he still knocked them out ? I mean, come on, myth and legend only goes so far. I'll listen to arguments about evolution of styles and skill etc., but it cannot be doubted that Fitz could generate some freakish bone-numbing power.
Jeffries v the Klitschko's isn't the same as Jeffries vs an un-natural heavyweight who can't hurt him with little textbook boxing skill and big disparity in strength.
