What's happened to Shane McGuigan? Does he still box? Seemed like a decent prospect

Found a gem of a fight on the net, Danny McAlinden winning his British title.

A bit with Duddy in the Mirror Yesterday if its of interest lads...
    Jonny Stapleton
John Duddy remains deliberately sceptical about his World title chances despite Top Rank boss Bob Arum’s claims that the Derry Destroyer is in pole position to take on WBO and WBC champion Kelly Pavilk.

Arum, who also stated Irish middleweights Andy Lee and Matthew Macklin were possible opponents for the American World champion, last week claimed he will pit Duddy against fellow cash cow Julio Chavez Junior this summer in a World title eliminator.

Duddy (29-1), who did reveal he is in talks with Chavez Jr (41-0) for a June bout, however claims he has been down this road before and it lead to nowhere.

The all action New York based Irish star has been touted as a possible World title challenger since 2007 but despite coming close never saw a clash with Pavilk or any champion materialise.

A fact that ensures the former Irish amateur champion will not get excited until a contract is signed.

“Kelly Pavilk is in my sights. I would like to fight for the title. I think he is still the main middleweight champion so that’s a fight I want. I've achieved many things as a fighter, but I think fighting for one of the main world titles would be great especially for the fans. It is great to be linked to big fights, but I've been down this road before. There's no fight until the agreement has been signed that’s one thing I have learnt in boxing,” Duddy explained before singing off the same hymn sheet when asked about Chavez Jnr.

“There hasn't been any agreement made ,but talks are on going. I think it would be great if this fight can happen. I'm very interested in fighting Chavez and I believe the Chavez camp are interested in making the fight too. I think we're close, but more issues have to be discussed. Hopefully it works out. This year certainly has the potential to be a great year for me. But if I got paid on potential I'd be very comfortable now. Boxing is a funny business.”

I'm surprised to hear that! He is still at LWW according to box rec? He fought for the European title before (as did Branco).
Perhap that title is no longer in his ambitions any more but if it is he will soon find out all about McCloskey.

    Kelly in Canada
31 March 2010 - By David Boyle Unbeaten Dundalk lightweight Michael Kelly is flying out to Toronto for his first taste of action in 2010. His opponent on April 8 will be Canadian lightweight Buzz Grant, 8-3 (3KO).
Kelly has no fears fighting abroad in Buzz's backyard, having had a extensive amateur background.
“I boxed in Canada before as an amateur and its was a great place and I cant wait to get back in the ring," he said. Michael’s first outing in 2010 was delayed after he bowed to injury in February - a week before a scheduled fight on the Andrew Murray vs Oisin ***an bill.
“I had a slight tear in my chest but for the week of the fight I couldn't raise my arm. Since then I have been training flat out and sparring everyday with no problems.”
The Dundalk fighter is venturing into the unknown as he hasn’t seen his opponent fight. Normally Kelly would have viewed dvd or youtube footage of opponents - but not for Buzz.
“The fact that I haven’t seen him doesn’t bother me in the slightest, having been an international amateur for quite a while I am used to not seeing my opponents, however it is always an advantage to see the guy first. I have seen pictures of him and he looks like he keeps himself in tremendous shape but I am too long in the tooth to worry about how good someone looks.”
Kelly feels that once he starts unloading his shots not many fighters will stay around until the end of the bout.
“I'm an aggressive fighter but I am accurate with my work and that’s where I have an advantage on most. If I land them the way I know I can they could go anytime.”

If Giuseppi Lauri said he didn't know who Paul McCloskey was then he was most certainly mugging you off.

Yeah the rumour has it the canadian promoter demanded Prunty on his show and Don O'Leary said you'll have to take Finbar Eade aswell so they agreed and then the promoter wanted options on prunty so it fell apart then and there!

I think we all know by now that a fight between Pajo Hyland and Martin Lindsay is the fight all us Irish fans are looking to see at some stage this year, But who else on the british scene could Pajo fight or would yous like to see him fight......There is:

    John Simpson
    Paul Appleby
    Esham Pickering
    Akaash Bhatia
    Jamie Arthur (unless he retired)
    Ricky Owen

I think any of the above can only better Pajos career.....

Hyland Lindsay would be an absolute *******. I'm sure RTE would be interested in showing that as a main event. The fact that both are undefeated would garner extra interest. I think Lindsay would get a decision but you never know. If they could get that as a co headliner with an Andy Lee fight, it could sell out the O2 I reckon. You'd have fans from all corners of the country to support boxers.
