Don't take anything away from Direll, he won that figth, AA was not closing in he was desperate, and did a foolish thing, now we talk if and if, but he was not even close to ko Direll who was doing fine in the 11 round. AA was desperate and outclassed.

I just explained to you that Dirrell loves fighting off the ropes, and gave you examples as such and this is the best you could say?

Even though the 2 best punches he landed in the fight came off fighting on the ropes and corners. Gotcha.

 

I've now seen the entire fight, and watched some parts multiple times. I do not aggree with Philla that AA was winning in the 2nd half. In fact, I think he caught a pretty big break when the ref had the cut checked, and the doctor got confused and decided to do his Miguel Diaz impersonation!

On the other hand, I do think Dirrell moved around a bit more than he needed to. As early as the 5th round AA was starting to look like a beaten fighter in the corner between rounds. A more seasoned, and more tenacious fighter would have stopped Abraham.

Dirrell is still pretty green. If he continues to improve, he'll be hell on wheels in a couple years.

 

Yep. Dirrell should have started sitting down on his punches. Although him being able to dance in the 11th was a good sign and showed he had stamina, he needs to fight more disciplined still most importantly when he has the lead.

Fighters like Hopkins and Mayweather they know how to sit on leads, thats somethig Dirrell needs to learn.

 

When Dirrell fought Froch there was a point where I told my brother inlaw, "If you could teach this kid to stay in the pocket, bob-weave-block-slip, and counter, he would be damn near unbeatable." He has the speed and the reflexes to do that extremly well. I think that is the direction they should point his training.

Agreed. I think Dirrell's issues are mental at this point. The competition is giving him all he can mentally handle. Froch was bringing it on a level he hadn't seen. It may have been his turning point.

 

Yeah thats what im worried about. He falls inlove with his speed and athleticism like Roy did and doesnt learn the technical side of boxing. He was doing great slipping Abrahams punches in the corners, but he didnt counter back, which is what he needs to do.

Although I cant hate on his trainers too much, he had the perfect gameplan. Instead of winging shots against Abrahams guard, he would shoe shine with the first 2 shots to open him up, then the third shot would be the one with mustard on it, then he'd side step instead of standing infront of Abraham which is really the only way he's successful.

 

In the 4th, Dirrell catches Abraham with a left and puts him down, this was against the ropes.

In the 7th, Abraham is charging, Dirrell positions himself against the corner, and catches Abraham with a looping right, the punch doesnt totally land, and its mostly cuff but its sends Abraham into the ropes.

In the 9th, again the same corner Dirrell slipped in, he catches Abraham with a left hook as Abraham is coming in, totally stops him in his tracks, the showtime team makes reference of it.


Again what dont you agree with?

 

Let's give credit where credit is do. This kid went from fighting the likes of Oganov and Hanshaw directly up to world class level with nothing in between. I do not have a high opinion of Abraham or Froch, but that is still one hell of a big step up!
