One of the guys on this podcast hadn't seen Tyson Fury fight until the McDermott bout???!?!?! He was on free tv all the time, the amount of these podcasters that haven't seen this fight or that fight, dont know whos fighting who or who hold what title, why are they hosting these things? People on here know more about boxing than some of these guys do
I dont think not having seen an 8 fight novice is something to be bothered about. Anyone who had watched him against the opposition he'd been up against till that point wouldnt have learned much about Fury, maybe apart from the Belshaw fight, and that didnt really prove much about him either.
Cheers :good I thought the boxing clever show was really good by the way, looking forward to the next one and plan on catching up on the ones ive missed. Well done to the guys who make it if they're looking in.
Dont think so, I know a guy who runs one so I could ask him, for more detaisl but I think you use this thing called Blog Talk radio. I'll PM ya next week
I thought so to Zico. I thought it was weird that one hadn't seen Tyson Fayurayy before but it's not a competition or quiz, it's a show with some entertaining chat and some banter.
I am one of the hosts / creators of the Boxing Clever Podcast (the one with the annoying accent!) and was interested to read this feedback about the show. Anyone who takes the time to download the show and listen to it is entitled to air their opinion, even if it is criticism, however as I take the time to make the show, I feel I am entitled to reply to any criticism.... Firstly I would like to thank everyone who listens to the show. The fact that people comment on it, good or bad, is a boost, so cheers! We do not get paid to make this show, in fact we have to pay at present to put it on air, and neither of us, despite my slightly ironic nickname 'the brain', claim to be boxing experts or historians. We are simply two fans who love boxing, who love talking about it, who have known each other for years and with the few medie contacts that we have thought we could make a reasonably enjoyable show. The idea of the show is not to be too hardcore, but to try and provide a bit of info, a bit of news, a bit of opinion and a bit of humour :yep We are trying to attract a few casual fans, as well as those with a deeper interest. We feel that boxing coverage, especially in the UK, can be a bit too formal and maybe lacks the appeal to draw in a younger audience, but by adding a bit of humour and banter we aim to change that. So far we have had very good feedback and although I can sort of see the point in some of the criticisms made on this page, I would answer the following; Carl Thompson; I didn't agree that he should be in the hall of fame and I made this argument on the show. However, my co host wanted him in there and expressed his reasons why, which I respect. We never said he was a great boxer on par with the others we nominated. Tyson Fury; Prior to the McDermott fight Fury was a novice (still is) who had never fought for any title of note and had never headlined a TV show. Why would I go out of my way to watch a novice in a series of 4 rounders against nobodies? I am also a football fan and to liken it to football, I would only watch a lower division team (aside from the one I support) if they drew a big team in the cup. I watched the Fury - Mcdermott fight because it was a reasonably big English title bout. I never saw the first 8 bouts of Joe Calzaghes career (or Mayweathers, or Pacs, or Hattons) but I have seen all their fights since they got to around national title level. I would challenge any boxing fan (who has a job and a wife / girlfriend) to say they have seen every bout of every novice fighter. Knowledge of world titles etc: I have a good knowledge of world titles, my co host Reidy has less of grasp on who holds what belt, but he has a good historical knowledge of the fight game. As I previously said, we don't claim to be experts but I am confident we know enough to make an entertaining show and I defy anyone to name every belt holder in every division in these days of multi world belts, interim belts, super champs, diamond champs, ring champs etc. We don't want to preach at people and say "If you don't know all the champions then you are not a true fan", that is why we often joke about not knowing what we are talking about. Above all I would urge people to listen to the show and take it for what it is, a more light hearted look at a serious sport where we provide some knowledge and opinions. I'm back off to sniff some more glue and try to develop a 'BBC' accent... (a northener slating my South London tones!?!) Cheers Martin 'the brain' Potter
I think the Boxing Clever podcast is excellent. I listen to every show. There's no way I could do a better job then those guys. I enjoy eastside boxing but some of the posters are so rude and aggressive. Don't just say you can do better - prove it. I really admire the Boxing Clever guys for using their own time and money and giving it a go. Constructively critise by all means, just don't be so nasty about it.
Thanks boys, feel free to send in any questions, comments or opinions to the show at boxingcleverpodcast.gmail.com. Anything saying you agree with the brain just to wind up my co host Mr Reid is always good, as is calling him 'sidekick', he loves that! Check out the latest show for my P4P top ten.
