Why is Hopkins so widely expected to beat RJJ?

Lets flip it around. What can Roy Jones do to beat Hopkins?

Roy's style is based on no only his quick hands, but his quick legs. While his hands are still very fast, his legs are not. In fact, Hopkins moves around much better than Jones does. This is because Hopkins has adapted and uses economical footwork, while Roy still tries to jump in and out like he did when he was 20. But he can't quite do it anymore.
Just look at how each dealt with common opponent, Joe Calzaghe. Hopkins was able to keep the fight close due to his defensive prowess and skill, whilst Calzaghe ran over Jones, because at that stage, Calzaghe was simply a better athlete then old man Roy.

While Roy has quick hands, he does not fight at a fast enough pace to bother Hopkins. In fact, Roy spend large portions of fights just covering up on the ropes. roy used to be able to slow the pace of a fight, by staying away with his quick legs. He can't do it anymore. Hopkins slows down fights by grinding and clutching and mauling. Can Jones outwork B-Hop like this? I think not.

Lastly, can Jones take a punch anymore? The evidence points to no. He's coming off a KO, against a hardly spectacular opponent, and to top that off, it seemed to be a grazing punch that did not even land all that hard.

Bottom Line, RJJ losses were more devastating then hopkins! and hopkins was never knocked out! but the fight will end like the first one! no way hopkins knocks out Jones! Jones by decision!

Hopkins has aged better and has followed the book while Jones used reflexes and relied heavily on quick hands and feet to counter and get out of the way but his legs are gone now. I see Hopkins mauling himself to a decision but a Jones win is just unlikely still not out of the question.

The common opponent argument favors B-Hop. He beat Tarver easily whereas Roy lost to him.

Most plausible scenario. Roy gets tired goes to ropes. BHop bangs away. Roy looks to is left and right, shows crowd he's not hurt. Doesn't respond with effective shorts. B-Hop wins in boring decision.

That said, The 3-1 odds were too good to pass up, $100 on Roy.

Most people think Hopkins is going to snarl at him with his crooked teeth and Jones is going to fall down. Jones took Lacys and Trinidads shots when he was still shot to pieces, and realistically Hopkins doesnt punch much harder, so the fight could be entertaining.

Roy's last fight, he was KOd in one by a nobody, due to a punch that barely looked like it connected. In addition to that, over the last SIX YEARS, Roy's record is 5-5 with 3 losses by KO or TKO.

B-Hop's last fight, he schooled the middleweight champion of the world for 12 rounds straight. In addition to that, over the last six years B-Hop has fought almost exclusively world champion class fighters, and all of his losses have been extremely close, and in some cases very controversial decisions.

Gee, I wonder why anyone could expect B-Hop to win. :-(

Yes, but Roy faked that KO. He was grazed.

Roy is shot to hell and back. Hopkins still has more of his capabilities. However, Hopkins is less mobile than young fighters and that may give Roy more life. Still, Hopkins shuts him down. I'll be watching on Saturday.

Dude, I most honestly advice you to check closely on the Calzaghe fights with both men and then to rewatch the 1993 IBF vacant title fight in Washington DC on the undercard of Bowe-Fergunson... Starting from the end to the beginning, Roy always had that natural talent to do two things at the same time - 1 skip, slip and duck punches and counter-powershot like Quicksilver, 2 get to you first either with a lead left hook out of nowhere or a flashy straight right over your left jab... Bernard had no chance but to lead and not step in, step back after jabbing, wait and wait to launch that attack to trap him there in the corner... Now, look at how Calzaghe cornered and pummeled Jones and the way Bernard challenged and sometimes made Calzaghe's bells ring. The only way you have to see this one is that once Bernard has Jones where he wants him to be ( and that shouldn't take long since Jones' legs take him there to the rest point), it's gonna be Bernard swarming, breaking him inside and busting him up in close. And remember, Bernard is not a short left hooker who doesn't know **** about distance and timing like Lacy... A shot on the temple and you think Roy is gonna stay on his feet? Man, you don't even have to go to the Green fight down under. Substance there for U!

Hopkins has looked solid in his last fights and Jones has not. But Hopkins is 45 and if Jones is quicker, Jones might win a decision. This fight looks like a decision, and I am going back and forth on who will win. Jones might pull this out.
